We start off today with cloudy skies with chilly temperatures in the 30s, we will have some breaks in the clouds by this afternoon. Tonight will be the coldest night of this week with temperatures falling below freezing in most areas. Well below normal temperatures will continue on Tuesday with partial sunshine.. Then on Wednesday the nor’easter that will affect our area with rain starting by the afternoon and it will become windy with gusts at least to 40MPH and up to 55MPH on the coast, we may have 1-2 inches of rain that will start off as snow well inland, 1-4 inches of snow may fall in the Poconos. Rain and wind will taper off by midday on Thursday with quieter and milder weather starting Friday and lasting into the early part of next week.
Also a 2.0 earthquake occurred centered in Ringwood, NJ at 1:19am this morning..

Tuesday – Sunny, high in the upper 40s.
Wednesday and Wednesday night, rain and windy, rain may start out as a snow inland, high in the upper 40s.
Thursday – Rain and wind tapering off by afternoon, high near 50.
Friday – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 50s.
Saturday and Sunday – Sunny and milder, highs both days in the upper 50s.

Marine Forecast: Today – North-northwest wind to 15 knots, seas 2 feet.
Outlook: Quiet conditions on Tuesday but Gale and possibly Storm force winds on Wednesday and Thursday, small craft advisories will still probably be needed on Friday.

The weather forecast is not good for people without power as much below normal temperatures will continue this upcoming week and then to top it off a rather strong coastal low will affect the areas hard heat by Superstorm Sandy. Today will be chilly again with a little less wind but we will have plenty of sunshine. Dry and cold Monday and Tuesday, Monday night should be the coldest night of the last few days with lows in the upper 20s and low 30s.. The storm for midweek looks rather strong with some wind gusts to 50MPH and 1-2 inches of rain, coastal flooding looks likely but again since we are between full and new moons the tides will be less, some of the rain may be mixed at times with snow or sleet especially over the inland suburbs. Drier weather later Thursday into next weekend with very slowly moderating temperatures..

Chilly but a dry weather is on tap which is unfortunate for people with no power as low temperatures the next several days will be in the 30s and highs mostly in the 40s to near 50.
Also a storm will be moving up the coast that will affect this area with strong winds, rain and possible coastal flooding to the areas that were affected by Sandy. The storm will no where be as strong as Sandy and will be coming in between full and the new moon which will minimize the coastal flooding, still it will be a problem for our coastal areas that were devastated by Superstorm Sandy.

Tonight – Becoming partly cloudy, breezy, low in the mid 30s.
Sunday – Mostly sunny, high near 50.
Monday and Tuesday – Sunny, high both days in the upper 40s.

Thursday – A good chance of rain – high in the low 50s.
Friday – Mostly sunny, bit milder, high in the upper 50s.

Marine Forecast: Today and Sunday – Small craft advisories for northwest winds to 25 knots and seas to 4 feet.
Outlook – Quiet winds and seas Monday and Tuesday but advisories are likely with the coastal storm on Wednesday into Thursday..

Well below normal temperatures will continue into next week, not good news for people that still have no power and to add insult to injury a coastal storm is likely to affect the area the middle of next week and although it will not nearly be as strong as Superstorm Sandy it will be a nuisance during the clean up activities from Sandy!. Long gas lines are now common in the area and although there is plenty of gas around but power outages at the stations and at the refineries are causing these problems that may last several more days..

Meanwhile October was the 21st straight month of above normal temperatures as we averaged about two degrees above normal. Precipitation was near normal for the month and it was a very cloudy month with more overcast hours than any month since 2005.

Outlook: – Small craft advisories will likely be needing through the weekend then drop to below advisory levels Monday and Tuesday but advisories again will be likely midweek as a coastal storm move up the coast..

I got the cable and internet back last night at around 9PM, thankfully did not lose power like many people in our area did. Looking back I find it amazing how the European model nailed this system more than a week out, it was the worse case scenario for the New Jersey coast and New York City area where record tide levels were reported.. My top wind was estimated at 58MPH and the pressure fell to 28.52″, second lowest in the 40 years I have been keeping records only beat out by the Mar 13, 1993 Super storm..
As we look at the next few days temperatures will average well below normal for early November, not much rain in the forecast but the European model is hinting at a possible coastal storm around November 7th that just may give the suburbs our first chance of some snow…
