Heavy rain and strong winds as winter begins!


Well the world did not end at 6:12am but winter has begun. Very strong winds and heavy rain this morning with gusts in excess of 50MPH are bringing down some tree limbs and power lines. The storm that gave the upper mid-west blizzard conditions will move to our northeast this morning. Colder air behind this storm will cause temperatures to drop this afternoon and there may be some snow showers later this afternoon and evening and again on Saturday. Winds will diminish somewhat but still be strong during the weekend. It now appears that we may see some light snow on Christmas morning as a weak disturbance moves through. A stronger system next Wednesday and Thursday may give the area accumulating snow so stay tuned.. Just a note that South Florida has freeze warnings issued for tonight.

Today – Strong winds and heavy rain till around 9am then cloudy and colder with slowly diminishing winds, chance of rain and or snow showers this afternoon, temperatures falling from the 50s this morning to near 40 by sunset.
Tonight – Mostly cloudy, low around 30.
Saturday – Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow showers in the morning and then rain or snow showers in the afternoon, windy, high in the low 40s.
Sunday – Mostly sunny, high around 40.
Monday – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 40s, chance of light snow at night.
Christmas Day – Mostly cloudy with a chance of light snow in the morning, high in the upper 30s.
Wednesday – Becoming cloudy with a chance or rain or snow, high near 40.
Thursday – Cloudy with a chance of rain or snow, high near 40.

Marine Forecast: Gale warnings through Saturday: Today – Southeast winds becoming Southwest gusting to 45 knots, seas up to 13 feet.
Outlook: Small craft advisories likely on Sunday dropping below advisory levels on Monday and Christmas Days, warnings may be needed again for the storm system on Wednesday and Thursday.

Calm before the storm!


Today we will be dry with sunshine again followed by increasing cloudiness toward sunset with rain developing mainly after 9pm. The storm will have a warm front moving into our area with rising temperatures along with heavy rain and strong winds however at this time conditions do not appear to be bad enough to cause the end of the world at 6:12AM. A cold front associated with this storm will move through around midday with strong winds continuing, the precipitation will be more showery in the afternoon and as colder air moves behind the front some snow showers are possible across the Poconos and Sussex County. Saturday will be windy with chances of rain or snow showers. Dry weather Sunday and most of Christmas Eve but there is a chance of some snow showers at night into very early Christmas Day. The next storm system will move into our area around next Thursday, this storm may be cold enough to give us some accumulating snow..

Outlook – Gale warning from later tonight through Saturday, diminishing to small craft advisories on Sunday.

Dry and windy Wednesday!


We will have a dry and windy day today with temperatures mild for this time of year. Thursday will start off with some sun but the next rain storm will be approaching from the middle of the country that will give us rain Thursday night into at least Friday morning some of this rain will be heavy especially Friday morning and don’t be surprised to even hear a rumble of thunder. The weekend looks quite windy with near seasonable temperatures, we may have some snow flurries on Saturday. Dry on Christmas Eve however the latest computer model is showing a weak disturbance moving in that just may give us some showers on Christmas Day.

Thursday – Increasing clouds, high in the mid-upper 40s. Rain developing at night mostly after 9pm.

Saturday – Quite windy, mostly cloudy, chance or rain or snow showers, high in the low 40s.
Sunday – Mostly sunny, high near 40.
Monday – Mostly sunny, high near 40.
Christmas Day – Partly sunny, chance of a shower, high in the low 40s.

Marine Forecast: Gale warning till 11 am this morning – West-northwest winds gusting to 35mph this morning, diminishing this afternoon, seas 5 feet.
Outlook – Briefly sub-advisory level conditions on Thursday but small craft or gale warnings can be expected Friday through the weekend.

Finally some sunshine today!


Most of the rain has moved east of the area, clearing will take place later this morning and it will be breezy and mild. Nice day on Wednesday with seasonably mild temperatures but it will stay breezy. The next storm system will affect the area from Thursday night into Friday with about an inch of rain likely. A seasonably cold weekend and it will be quite windy but dry. The long range forecast for Christmas looks good at this point with seasonably cold temperatures but with plenty of sunshine. The chances of a white Christmas is almost zero in this area.

Cloudy again today with more rain late tonight!


It will remain cloudy this Monday with drizzle from time to time but temperatures will be above normal again with highs in the 40s. Another storm system will give us more rain late tonight into Tuesday morning. The sun will come out tomorrow afternoon with windy conditions but it will be mild with highs in the mid 50s. Windy and dry on Wednesday. Another storm will be moving in from the west on Thursday giving us more rain Thursday night into early Friday morning. Clearing later Friday but it will be windy. Weekend looks dry but windy and with temperatures falling to near normal.
