A combination of snow, sleet. rain and freezing rain began last night and is continuing this morning, accumulations in Clifton are around 1 inch, but up to 4.5″ reported at Highland Lakes in Sussex county. This mixed precipitation will change to plain rain by mid -day and end by early afternoon. Quite a few accidents reported this morning on the highways so be careful if you have to head out this morning especially on untreated roads and sidewalks.
Milder weather on Thursday with some sunshine. Friday will be colder, have to keep an eye on a disturbance that should pass off the Virgina coast but should stay well to our south. Milder again on Saturday. An Arctic cold front will be moving through sometime on Sunday with the coldest air of the winter behind this front, also got to keep an eye on a possible storm on Tuesday, most computer models have this also passing well offshore but a couple of them do show this storm to be close enough to give us a significant snowstorm, of course too early to tell but stay tuned. One thing is almost certain that next week will be very cold.

A cold front came through yesterday and a wave along this front caused rain last night, this rain has moved offshore and we will have a dry day with temperatures still a little above normal for this time of year. Another stronger wave along this front will cause precipitation to move in later tonight into Wednesday morning, a messy mix of rain,snow, sleet and freezing rain will fall with accumulations of about an inch in the Clifton area to up to 4 inches inland. little or no accumulation to our east and south. This system will move offshore later Wednesday. Thursday will be dry with seasonably mild temperatures. Colder Friday with temperatures falling to near normal. Mild and dry Saturday. A stronger cold front will move through sometime Sunday followed by likely the coldest air of the season next week.

This weekend we were socked in with low clouds, fog and at times some drizzle, high temperatures never reached the 50s as marine air covered our area while Western New York and Pennsylvania were very mild, Rochester, NY registered a high of 69 degrees.
A cold front will come through later this morning and drying west wind will help to push the clouds and fog offshore. This front will move to our south but will be close enough that weak disturbances along the front will give us a chance of precipitation early Tuesday morning and again on Wednesday, some of this will fall as mixed sleet and snow especially on Wednesday morning. Dry weather later Wednesday through the weekend, temperatures will mostly be a little above normal through this period except for Friday when highs will stay in the 30s.. Looks much colder next week.

This weekend’s weather has not been as nice as predicted as we have been stuck with fog and clouds keeping daytime temperatures lower along with little if any sunshine. Dense fog this morning will persist until at least mid-morning and instead of temperatures near 60 we will be lucky to hit the low 50s. It will be quite mild tonight ahead of a cold front that may give us a chance of showers into Monday morning. A cold front will move through on Monday but temperatures will rise into the upper 50s. This front will just be to our south on Tuesday and Wednesday with a slight chance of light precipitation, temperatures will cool off but still be above normal. Dry weather Thursday into next Saturday with highs mostly near 40. Computer models still showing frigid air moving down from Canada for next week.

Yesterday’s rain is gone and we are left with lots of clouds and fog this morning but temperatures rose a bit overnight and as of 6am are in the low 40s which even above average for daytime highs. Sunshine should break through by mid-day and temperatures will rise into the 50s. Mild night again tonight with lows in the 40s. Sunday may not hit 60 degrees as we may be stuck with low clouds and drizzle that will keep high temperatures in the 50s, still well above normal. On Monday a cold front will slowly push though the area, it will start off very mild again but cool down late in the day along with a chance of showers. This front will only move a little south of us early next week, so clouds and showers may persist into Tuesday, this precipitation may be mixed with snow well inland early Tuesday morning, highs during the day will be in the low 40s still above normal for this time of year. The Arctic plunge that was going to give us frigid conditions at the end of next week does not all that cold now with highs toward the end of the week still a little above normal. Now the computer models are delaying the cold till the week of the 21st, but we shale see.
