Dry and cooler today! Winter storm watch still in effect for Wednesday!

We have mostly cloudy skies at daybreak this morning and it is still quite mild with temperatures in the upper 50s.

Today will become mostly sunny, temperatures will slowly fall through the day into the low 50s by this afternoon, still above normal for this time of year.

The fun begins tomorrow or not so much fun if you are traveling, rain will begin around daybreak and change to snow late in the morning, the snow will continue till around 10pm on Wednesday.  The tricky part of the forecast is the snow accumulations, it is difficult to predict where the heaviest banding will occur also how fast the temperatures do fall, a degree or two makes a whole lot of difference in those accumulations.  I will take a crack at it and say that 6-8 inches will fall in the Clifton area, less to our east and south and up to 8-12 inches across the northwest part of the state before the snow ends at night.

Thanksgiving Day will be dry and chilly with mostly cloudy skies.

Dry weather will continue Friday into early next week, temperatures will be below normal Friday and Saturday rising to above normal levels Sunday and Monday.

Long range for next week looks to be mild with no frigid air or snow in sight.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – Mostly sunny and cooler, temperatures falling to the low 50s by this afternoon.

TONIGHT – Mostly cloudy, low in the upper 30s.

WEDNESDAY – Rain developing around daybreak changing to snow by late morning and ending by 10pm at night, 6-8 inches expected with less to our east and more inland.

THANKSGIVING DAY – Mostly cloudy, high around 40.

FRIDAY – Sunny and cold, high in the upper 30s.

SATURDAY – Partly sunny, high in the low 40s.

SUNDAY – Partly sunny and milder, high near 50.

MONDAY – Partly sunny, high in the low 50s.

MARINE FORECAST:  Small craft advisory in effect today for west winds gusting to 30 knots, seas 6-8 feet.

Gale warning will be in effect for Wednesday.

OUTLOOK – Small craft advisory still likely for Thanksgiving Day,  no advisories expected Friday through Saturday.

Have a good day!

Near 70 degrees today! Winter storm watch for Wednesday into Thanksgiving morning!

We have rain this morning and temperatures have shot up to around 60 degrees along with strong southerly winds gusting to 35 mph.

Rain will taper off to showers this morning and  end by 11 am followed by partial clearing this afternoon, temperatures will rise to near 70 degrees but winds will continue to be strong gusting 30-35 mph.

A cold front will cross the area late tonight, temperatures will be cooler on Tuesday but still be above normal, winds will still gust at times to 25 mph.

Now for the winter effect taking shape for Wednesday into early Thanksgiving morning, a coastal low pressure system will be moving along the coast and depending on the track and strength of the storm will determine the snow amounts for our area. The rain and snow line will be very near to the Clifton area and how it appears right now is that precipitation will begin as rain Wednesday morning then change to snow after 2pm and continue into the night ending around 2am Thanksgiving morning.  For snow amounts I am thinking about 2-4 inches for the Clifton area, less to our east and south and more inland were 6-12 inches may occur.  I have very low confidence on the snow amounts and I am glad I don’t get paid for these forecasts.

Clearing and cool on Thanksgiving Day.

Dry and chilly weather Friday through the weekend but it won’t be as frigid as what we experienced last week.

Looking further ahead it looks like temperatures will be mild next week especially after next Tuesday.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – Rain showers ending by 11am then partial clearing windy and warm, high near 70.

TONIGHT – Partly cloudy, low in the upper 40s.

TUESDAY – Mostly sunny and breezy, high in the mid 50s.

WEDNESDAY – Rain developing in the morning changing to snow after 2pm, high near 40.  Snow at night ending around 2am Thanksgiving morning.

THANKSGIVING – Partly sunny, high near 40.

FRIDAY – Sunny, high in the upper 30s.

SATURDAY – Partly sunny, high in the low 40s.

SUNDAY – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 40s.

MARINE FORECAST:   Gale warning in effect till 11am for southerly winds gusting to 40 knots seas 7-11 feet, seas and winds diminishing this afternoon.

OUTLOOK – Near advisory level conditions on Tuesday with gales possible Wednesday, small craft advisories possible from Wednesday night through Friday.

Have a good day!

Milder today! Rain late tonight into Monday morning then warm! Rain and or snow Wednesday and Wednesday night!

It is much milder this morning than yesterday with temperatures in the low 40s in the Clifton area to the upper 30s further inland which is about 20 degrees warmer than this time yesterday, skies are mostly cloudy and the winds are light.

We should have partly sunny skies today with temperatures reaching the low 50s which is just a little bit above normal for this time of year but after this past cold snap it will feel quite comfortable.

Clouds will increase tonight with rain developing around midnight and ending Monday morning, rain may be heavy at times with an inch of rainfall is possible.

After the rain it will become partly sunny during the day and unseasonably warm with highs near record levels reaching the 70 degree mark.

A cold front will cross the area Monday night and Tuesday will be cooler but with highs in the 50s.

Now for Wednesday, a coastal storm will be developing and moving up the coast, the track and the strength of the storm is still not clear but as of right now it appears that we will have mostly rain starting around midday possibly beginning as a mix or snow or rain, at night colder air will be moving into the area and changing the rain to snow which may accumulate a few inches inland before ending on Thanksgiving morning.  The forecast will probably change the next few days so keep tuned as this may affect travel especially inland.

Clearing and cool on Thanksgiving day with continued cool and dry weather into next weekend.

FRIDAY – Mostly sunny, high near 40.

MARINE FORECAST:  TODAY – West-southwest wind to 14 knots, seas 2-3 feet.

Gale warning will be in effect from midnight tonight till 11 am on Monday morning.

Have a good day!

A little milder today after a chilly start! Mild on Sunday and warm on Monday after morning rain!

Skies are clear and we have light winds early this morning, there is a big spread in temperatures ranging from around 20 here in the Clifton area to some single digits in the colder valleys in Warren and Sussex counties.

Today we will have plenty of sunshine and temperatures around five degrees warmer than on Friday.

There is a very slight chance of rain early Sunday morning that may be freezing rain well inland, otherwise expect partly sunny conditions during the day Sunday and temperatures rising into the 50s.

Rain will fall Monday morning mainly between the hours of 1-9 am, and inch of rain is expected. This rain will be followed by clearing and warm temperatures with some record highs possible, highs may approach the 70 degree mark.

A cold front may give us some showers Monday night , Tuesday will be a mostly sunny day, not as warm but still above normal temperatures.

Chilly weather can be expected Wednesday through Friday and a storm system is expected to develop just offshore, there is a wide spread of the track and strength of this storm right now with the European model closer to the coast and stronger while most of the other models have the system well out to sea and not affected our weather.  The best chance of rain or snow if it does occur  would be from Wednesday afternoon into Thanksgiving morning so stay tuned.

Have a good day!

Winterlike temperatures today through Saturday morning!

Skies are clear at daybreak this morning and temperatures are mainly in the chilly low 20s across the area, winds are around 10 mph from the west.

Today will be another very cold day with a brisk wind, highs will stay in the 30s with wind chills in the 20s, skies will be mostly sunny.  Yes it is cold but at least we don’t have snow like the Buffalo area where some reports of an amazing 90 inches falling in the last two days just south of that city.

After a clear and chilly night temperatures will moderate a little on Saturday but still stay below normal, winds will be much lighter with mostly sunny skies.

Temperatures finally reach near normal on Sunday, normal high temperature for this time of year is around 50 degrees.  Rain will occur at night.

After some morning rain on Monday it will become very mild in the afternoon with highs well up into the 60s with even a 70 degree temperature is possible, that will feel really nice after this cold week.

A cold front will come through on Monday night with clearing skies on Tuesday and although it will be cooler highs will still be a little below normal.

Cooler on Wednesday, watching a possible low pressure system that is expected to develop offshore  possibly giving us some rain or snow.

Cool but dry on Thanksgiving Day.
