Skies are partly to mostly cloudy early on this Monday morning and temperatures range from the low 30s in the Clifton area down to the upper 20s further inland, winds are strong out of the west with gusts to 35 mph, be careful heading out this morning since there may be some black ice from the precipitation we received yesterday.

Today we should see a mix of clouds and sunshine but the story will be the winds which may gust to 50 mph at times until early this afternoon and then slowly diminish by late this afternoon as a very strong storm is now east of Cape Cod.

Tomorrow we will have much lighter winds with partly cloudy skies and seasonably cool temperatures.

The systems that we have been following for the mid-week period are not expected to phase, so no precipitation is expected, temperatures on Wednesday will be a little above normal.

Dry weather will continue Thursday and Friday with slightly below normal temperatures.

Milder over the weekend and we should continue to be dry, highs are expected to be well up into the 40s on Saturday and into the 50s on Sunday.

SUNDAY FEBRUARY 12, 2017  6:12 A.M.

Skies are cloudy early on this Sunday morning and a mixture of freezing rain and sleet has developed as temperatures have fallen just below freezing in the Clifton area to the upper 20s further inland, winds are brisk out of the east.

Today we will have a mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow that may accumulate to about an inch before changing to rain this afternoon.  Inland temperatures should stay below freezing most of the day so there will be a higher accumulations of ice and snow in those areas.  A storm system in the Midwest will rapidly intensify and be off the New England coast tonight.

Monday will be dry but with very strong winds of up to 50 mph, a high wind watch is in effect from late tonight into Monday afternoon.

Most of next week will be dry with near seasonable temperatures, there is a slight possibility of storm developing on Wednesday but most models have the storm develop too far to our north and east to cause any significant issues but since the event is a few days away it still bears watching.

Mild weather can be expected by next weekend with highs reaching the 50s by next Sunday.

TONIGHT – Mostly cloudy with evening sleet and rain with snow showers late tonight, becoming very windy after midnight with gusts to 45 mph, low in the low 30s.

SATURDAY FEBRUARY 11, 2017  6:12 A.M.

We have cloudy skies early on this Saturday morning and temperatures range from the upper 20s in the Clifton area to the low 20s further inland, winds are light.

Today we will have cloudy skies this morning with possible breaks of sunshine this afternoon as a weak warm front crosses the area, temperatures will rise into the 40s which is more than 10 degrees higher than the low 30s that was recorded yesterday.

On Sunday a low pressure area will move into the area and quickly develop just to our northeast, the computer models have come in colder with this system so expect a wintery mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow during the day changing to rain in our area but well inland significant ice and snow will continue, a winter weather advisory will be in effect for northwest New Jersey, the Poconos and the Hudson Valley. Snow and sleet accumulations around 1 inch with higher amounts inland.

The storm will move off the New England coast on Monday and the pressure gradient will cause very strong winds in our area with gusts 40-50 mph possible, skies will be partly sunny.

Mainly dry weather most of next week although some computer models have a storm for Wednesday close enough to give us rain or snow but at this point we will keep the forecast dry. Temperatures next week will be at or slightly above normal for mid-February.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 2017  6:01 A.M.

Skies are mostly fair early on this Friday morning and temperatures have fallen to the upper teens in the Clifton area to the low teens further inland, winds are brisk out of the west.  Some black ice are on untreated roads and sidewalks so be careful heading out this morning.  Here in Clifton I recorded 8.5 inches of snow from yesterday’s storm.

Today will be a dry and cold day as high pressure builds into the area, winds will be a little gusty this morning but diminish by this afternoon.  A weak warm front approaching the area will cause increasing cloudiness tonight with a some light snow late tonight into Saturday morning, at this time accumulations will range from a dusting to an inch.

Milder on Saturday as another high pressure moves into our area, temperatures will reach the 40s.

Rain is likely on Sunday as a storm develops and moves north of the area, this storm will rapidly strengthen and cause more heavy snow for New England on Monday.  Here it will be dry on Monday but quite windy.

Seasonable temperature Tuesday through Thursday of next week, some models are indicating another storm for Wednesday but at this point most areas will stay dry.

THURSDAY FEBRUARY 9, 2017  6:00 A.M.

Snow is falling over the area on this Thursday morning and temperatures that were around 40 at midnight have fallen to the upper 20s in the Clifton area and to the low 20s further inland, winds are gusty out of the north, about an inch and a half of snow has already accumulated as of 6 a.m.

Snow will be heavy this morning with snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour possible, the snow should taper off this afternoon but not before 8-12 inches have fallen across most of the area with possible higher amounts, strong gusty northerly winds will cause blowing and drifting snow through this afternoon.  Temperatures will continue to fall with afternoon highs only in the low to mid 20s.  Clearing by this evening but it will be very cold with temperatures falling to the low teens by Friday morning.

High pressure over the area on Friday will give us dry and very cold conditions but with diminishing winds.

A weak warm front approaching the area will give us a chance of light snow Friday night.

Milder weather for the weekend with highs reaching the 40s.  Another trough will give us a good chance of light rain on Sunday.

Later Monday into Tuesday should be dry and seasonably mild but another storm system may give us rain or snow on Wednesday.
