FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2017  5:53 A.M.

Skies are mostly clear early on this Friday morning and temperatures are colder than the last several days with readings ranging from the mid 20s in the Clifton area to the mid teens further inland, actually these temperatures are close to normal, winds are light from the northwest.

An Arctic high pressure area will be over our area today and tomorrow with mainly dry conditions although there may be some flurries this afternoon mainly inland, temperatures will be cold both days with highs only in the 30s.

A weak system moving through the Great Lakes will cause increasing cloudiness on Sunday with only a chance of some flurries or sprinkles, afternoon temperatures will not be as cold.

Mainly fair with temperatures a little above normal on Monday.

A stronger low pressure system will affect our area Tuesday and Wednesday, precipitation will likely begin on Tuesday as a wintery mix and then change to all rain as warmer air moves into the area on Wednesday.

Colder again at the end of next week with mainly mostly fair skies.

MARINE FORECAST:  TODAY – West to northwest wind to 12 knots, seas 1 foot; a small craft advisory will be in effect from 6 p.m. this evening till 10 a.m. on Saturday.

OUTLOOK – Sub advisory level conditions expected Saturday and Monday, with possible advisories for Sunday and Tuesday.

Skies are mostly cloudy to cloudy across the region on this Thursday morning and tempertures range from the low 30s in the Clifton area to near 20 in the colder inland areas, winds are nearly calm.

A weak cold front will come through during the day today, the front should come through dry but a couple of snow flurries inland can not be ruled out, temperatures should reach the low 40s which is slightly above normal for early February.

Rather cold and dry Friday and Saturday with temperatures below normal.

Latest indications that the storm that was expected for Sunday will stay disorganized only giving our area a low chance of light snow or flurries.

A stronger storm will affect our area Tuesday into Wednesday, milder air will move in so most of the precipitation will fall as rain but may start as a wintery mix especially inland on Tuesday.

Colder again at the end of next week.

CLIFTON, NJ, JANUARY 2017 CLIMATE SUMMARY:

January 2017 was the warmest January since 2006 and the 5th warmest since 1973, the average temperature was 35.9 degrees which was about 6 degrees above normal.  Precipitation was just slightly above normal with 4.39 inches, snowfall was below normal with 8.3 inches.  It was a very cloudy month with over 50% of overcast conditions which was the highest amount of cloud cover for January since at least 1973.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2017  5:55 A.M.

Skies are mostly cloudy to cloudy across the area early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures rose overnight with mid 30s in the Clifton area to the mid 20s in some of the colder inland valleys, winds are light.  Be careful if you need to head on this morning as some black ice may be on some of the untreated roads and sidewalks.  Yesterday I recorded 1.3″ of snow.

Today will be milder than yesterday despite considerable cloudiness, temperatures will rise well up into the 40s but a brisk westerly winds will make it feel somewhat colder.

A cold front will cross the area on Thursday, temperatures will still be a bit above normal but become colder at night.

Cold and dry weather Friday and Saturday.

It now appears that there will be only a low chance of light snow on Super Bowl Sunday.

A more significant storm is possible next Tuesday and Wednesday but with milder air moving in most of the precipitation would fall as rain.
