More sunshine today but still breezy as Jose moves slowly away! Warm and dry weather throughout the weekend!


WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 20, 2017  5:50 A.M.

We have mostly cloudy skies early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures are again quite mild with readings near 70 in the Clifton area down to the mid 60s further inland, these temperatures are more than 15 degrees above normal for this time of year.

Jose is expected to drift slowly to the northeast today, we should see more sunshine especially over the inland areas, temperatures will rise into the low 80s.

Mainly dry and warm weather to continue through the weekend into early next week.

 

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – SEP 20 – Mostly cloudy, high in the low 80s.

TONIGHT – Mostly cloudy in the evening then becoming partly cloudy, low in the mid 60s.

THURSDAY – SEP 21 – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 80s.

FRIDAY – SEP 22 – Mostly sunny, high in the low 80s.

SATURDAY – SEP 23 – Sunny, high in the low 80s.

SUNDAY – SEP 24 – Sunny, high in the mid 80s.

MARINE FORECAST:  A small craft advisory is in effect through 6 a.m. on Friday morning.  Today – Northwest wind to 30 knots, seas 6-10 feet, winds and seas lowering by this evening.

OUTLOOK – Small craft conditions are expected to continue through the weekend for high seas.

 

TROPICS:   Jose has weakened to a tropical storm with top winds of 65 mph, Jose is about 250 miles east of the Delaware coast and is expected to move slowly northeast today and then meander off our coast through the weekend.     Dangerous Hurricane Maria is approaching Puerto Rico now with top winds of 155 mph.   Maria is expected to cross Puerto Rico today.

TUESDAY  SEPTEMBER 19, 2017  6:00 A.M.

Skies are cloudy although there are some breaks in the clouds inland, temperatures are mild ranging from the upper 60s in the Clifton area to the low 60s further inland, there is a northerly breeze.

Hurricane Jose will be moving north about 250 miles east of the Jersey coast today.  Clouds and some showers today with winds gusting at times to 20 mph, coastal areas will have more rain and wind while inland little or no wind of rain is expected.  Temperatures will be in the 70s.

High pressure will then build into the area on Wednesday and be with us through the weekend, temperatures will be unseasonably warm throughout this period.

MARINE FORECAST:  TODAY – A tropical storm watch is in effect for northerly winds gusting to 40 knots, seas 10-15 feet.  High surf and coastal flood warnings are also in effect.

OUTLOOK – Advisories expected for high seas on Wednesday;  no advisories expected Thursday through Saturday.

 

TROPICS:  Hurricane Jose with top winds of 75 mph is located about 250 miles east-northeast of Cape Hatteras, Jose is expected to slowly weaken as it moves north-northeast off the coast. Dangerous Hurricane Maria has top winds of 155 mph and is located about 200 miles southeast of St. Croix.  Maria is expected to approach St. Croix and Puerto Rico on Wednesday as a Catagory 4 or 5 storm.

MONDAY  SEPTEMBER 18, 2017  5:48 A.M.

 

Skies have become mostly cloudy to cloudy around the area and temperatures range from the upper 60s in the Clifton area down to around 60 further inland, winds are mainly calm.

Today we will have more cloudiness  especially over coastal areas, inland areas may see more in the way of sunshine, temperatures will be slightly lower.

Hurricane Jose will move around 200 miles east of the coast line but close enough to likely give us rain on Tuesday and some gusty winds, winds will be higher near coastal areas.  High seas will cause minor to moderate coastal flooding.

Still some showers possible on Wednesday as Jose moves slowly away.

At this time Thursday through the weekend looks to be dry with above normal temperatures.

TONIGHT – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers after midnight, low in the mid 60s.

TUESDAY – SEP 19 – Cloudy with showers likely, breezy with gusts to 25 mph, high in the low 70s.

WEDNESDAY – SEP 20 – Mostly cloudy in the morning then partly sunny in the afternoon, chance of showers, high near 80.

THURSDAY – SEP 21 – Mostly sunny, high near 80.

FRIDAY – SEP 22 – Mostly sunny, high near 80.

SATURDAY – SEP 23 – Mostly sunny, high near 80.

SUNDAY – SEP 24 – Mostly sunny, high in the low 80s.

 

MARINE FORECAST:   TODAY – East to northeast winds to 14 knots, seas 3 feet.

OUTLOOK – Tropical storm conditions possible Monday night through Wednesday;  advisories are likely for high seas Wednesday night through Friday.

 

TROPICS:  Hurricane Jose with top winds of 85 mph will move northward about 200 miles east of the New Jersey coast on Tuesday and the storm should weaken while over the cooler ocean.

Hurricane Maria has top winds of 90 mph and is just east of the Leeward Islands, Maria is expected to become a major hurricane as it effects some of the islands that were devistated by Hurricane Irma.

Warm and humid again today! Hurricane Jose still expected to remain offshore!


SUNDAY  SEPTEMBER 17, 2017  5:45 A.M.

There is considerable fog in the area early on this Sunday morning and temperatures range from the mid 60s in the Clifton area down to the low 60s further inland, winds are mainly calm.

Fog should burn off this morning but it will be a mostly cloudy day, temperatures and humidity will be similar to yesterday.  There is a low chance of an isolated shower but most areas will remain dry.

Partly sunny and slightly cooler but still humid on Monday.

Hurricane Jose is still expected to move up the coast about 200 miles east of the Jersey coast on Tuesday, at the present time it only appears that we will have some showers with the system along with high surf but if the center of Jose moves closer than expected we then may have heavier rain and wind.

After Jose passes our area, the rest of the week is expected to be dry with above normal temperatures.

TONIGHT – Patch fog, mostly cloudy, low in the mid 60s.

MONDAY – SEP 18 – Partly sunny, high in the upper 70s, chance of showers at night.

TUESDAY – SEP 19 – Cloudy with a chance of shower, high in the mid 70s.

WEDNESDAY – SEP 20 – Partly sunny, high near 80.

THURSDAY – SEP 21 – Mostly sunny, high near 80.

FRIDAY – SEP 22 – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 70s.

MARINE FORECAST:  A small craft advisory is in effect for high seas until 6 a.m on Monday, winds northeast 5-10 knots, seas 4-7 feet.  A high risk of dangerous rip currents.

OUTLOOK – Advisories for high seas expected to continue Monday through Wednesday with possible tropical storm or gale warnings for Tuesday.

 

TROPICS:  Hurricane Jose with top winds of 80 mph is expected to move offshore of the east coast and slowly weaken.

Tropical storm Lee with top winds of 40 mph is well out in the Atlantic and not expected to affect any land areas.

Tropical storm Maria with top winds of 65 mph is well east of the Leeward Islands, Maria is expected to become a major hurricane in a couple of days as it moves through the Leeward Islands and then move toward Puerto Rico.  Some models have the storm possibly affecting the east coast next week.

Skies are mostly fair although there is some fog in some inland places, temperatures range from the upper 60s in the Clifton area down to the upper 50s further inland, winds are mainly calm.

High pressure over the northeast will give our area warm temperatures this weekend, highs both days will be in the 80s with moderate humidity.  There is a chance of an isolated shower over inland areas this afternoon but most areas will remain dry.

Hurricane Jose is expected to move north up the coast about 200 miles east of our area, the storm may give us some rain and wind mostly over coastal areas Tuesday into early on Wednesday, even though the track will be offshore there will be heavy surf and possible coastal flooding along with dangerous rip currents.

Improving weather from Wednesday afternoon through Friday, temperatures will be seasonably warm.

OUTLOOK – Possible tropical storm conditions Monday night through Wednesday from Jose.

 

TROPICS:  Hurricane Jose has top winds of 80 MPH and is located in the Western Atlantic, Jose is expected to move northward off the east coast early next week while slowly weakening.

NOTE: –  On this day in 1999 Hurricane Floyd gave the area very heavy rain and serious flooding.
