Our heat wave will continue today as a high pressure ridge is over the eastern part of the country. High temperatures will be in the 90s and with dew points around 70 will cause heat indexes to rise to near 100 degrees, a heat advisory is in effect. Skies will be mostly sunny but some high clouds from the remains of Tropical Cyclone Idalia move in from the east.

Hot and humid Wednesday and Thursday with highs again in the 90s and dew points near 70. There may be more clouds on Thursday as a frontal system approaches our area from the west and some showers are possible at night.

Not as hot on Friday but it will remain quite humid along with a chance of showers.

Showers and thunderstorms are more likely over the weekend with some heavy rain possible. The humidity will remain high.

At this point Monday looks to be mainly dry although there is a slight chance of lingering showers. The humidity should drop by late in the day.

High pressure ridge over the southeastern states will give us another hot day today with slightly more humidity as dew points rise to the upper 60s. We may see some partial clouds this morning with a slight chance of some sprinkles. Skies will then become mostly sunny this afternoon. Highs will be in the low 90s and with the humidity it will feel like the mid to upper 90s and a heat advisory is in effect.

Hot and humid weather to continue through the day on Thursday.

A slow moving frontal system will give us a chance of showers Thursday night through Saturday, high temperatures will be cooler but the humidity will remain high.

A frontal system may touch off some showers for Friday and Saturday with lower temperatures but higher humidity.

We probably won’t be this cool again at least for the next week or more. Winds are calm or light southwesterly. The air quality continues to be good with an index of 43.

High pressure over us will give us another sunny day today with temperatures a few degrees warmer than yesterday with most highs in the lower 80s. The humidity will be slightly higher with dew points in the 50s.

An extended period of dry and hot weather with an increase in humidity will start tomorrow and last much of next week with highs mainly in the 90s and dew points rising to the mid to upper 60s.

A front may touch off some showers on Friday with cooler temperatures but the humidity will remain high.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY:

August 2023’s average temperature was 73.7 which is 0.1 degree above normal but was the coolest August since 2014. The highest temperature was only 88 recorded on the 12th, 13th and 14th. This is only the third time in August in the last 50 years that the high temperature didn’t reach the 90 degree mark. Last August we had 17 days of 90 degree plus temperatures. Precipitation 4.44″ which is just about normal for August.

SUMMER 2023: Although the temperatures were near normal it was the coolest summer since 2009. Precipitation totaled 12.17″ which is slightly below normal.

A large area of high pressure moves into our area & will give us more very nice late summer weather today and on Saturday with plenty of sunshine, low humidity and near seasonable temperatures.

As the high pressure moves to our south we will have a southwesterly flow of much warmer air on Sunday with a slow increase in humidity.

We will have a hot and more humid day on Labor Day with highs in the 90s and dew points rising into the 60s.

Very warm weather to continue next week as high pressure will control our weather.
