The storm that gave us the heavy rain yesterday and especially last night is just east of our area this morning and will move to off the Nova Scotia coast by this afternoon. Some lingering drizzle this morning should end by dawn, then we should remain mostly cloudy with a chance of afternoon and evening rain and snow showers. Temperatures in the 40s this morning will drop to the 30s by sunset. Winds will increase from the northwest this afternoon and gust to over 30 mph tonight.

Very windy on Monday but we will be dry. Skies will become mostly sunny and with wind gusts to 50 mph it will feel much colder. A high wind watch is in effect.

Another round of rain will develop as a low pressure system approaches our area. Rain will develop this afternoon and become heavy at times tonight with a chance of a thunderstorm. The coastal storm that gave us the rain yesterday is moving further away to near Nova Scotia as high pressure builds from the west. Today will be a mostly cloudy day, and it will breezy; high temperatures will not rise that much from the present readings with highs mostly in the mid 50s.

High pressure will be in control of our weather on Friday finally giving us a mostly sunny day with seasonably mild temperatures.

The third round of widespread rain can be expected mainly from Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning with another inch or so of rainfall. The storm will move away on Sunday afternoon but it will remain mostly cloudy with increasing winds.

FEBRUARY 2024 CLIMATE SUMMARY. RECORDS SINCE 1973.

February’s average temperature was 37.2 degrees which was about 4 degrees above normal and was the 10th warmest February. The highest temperature was 59 degrees set on the 10th and the 28th. The lowest temperature was 18 degrees set on the 25th, this was the highest minimum temperature for February. Rainfall was below normal with 2.22″. Snowfall was near average with 11.2″ most of coming on the 13th when 8.5″ accumulated.

WINTER MONTHS

Temperatures during this winter season averaged well above normal and was the 4th warmest winter. Precipitation was well above normal also with 19.04″, December and January were quite wet while February was drier than normal. Snowfall was below normal with 18.6″ accumulating.
