Skies are cloudy early on this Thursday morning and some light rain or drizzle is falling over parts of the area. Temperatures are cool with readings ranging from 57 in Clifton down to 52 at High Point. Winds are from the north-northeast. The air quality is good with an index of 19.

Today will be a cloudy and breezy day with a chance of a morning shower. A weak trough remains to our south and Hurricane Erin will make its closest approach to our area but will stay about 350 miles off shore.

High pressure will then build into the area for Friday and Saturday giving us sunny skies both days along with warmer temperatures.

A frontal system will give us a chance of a shower Sunday afternoon with showers likely Sunday night through Monday night.

High pressure will then build into our area for Tuesday and Wednesday giving us mostly sunny skies both days with seasonably cool temperatures.

TODAY – AUG 21 – Cloudy with a chance of a morning shower, breezy, highs in the low 70s, wind gusts to 28 mph.

TONIGHT – Mostly cloudy in the evening then becoming mostly clear, lows near 60.

FRIDAY – AUG 22 – Sunny, highs in the low 80s.

SATURDAY – AUG 23 – Sunny, highs in the mid 80s.

SUNDAY – AUG 24 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers in the afternoon, highs in the low 80s, showers likely at night.

MONDAY – AUG 25 – Mostly cloudy with showers likely and possible some thunderstorms in the afternoon, highs in the low 80s.

MARINE FORECAST: A gale warning is in effect until 6 a.m. Friday morning for northeast winds gusting to 40 knots, seas 11-16 feet. High surf along with dangerous rip currents. Belmar’s ocean temperature is 76 degrees.

OUTLOOK: Advisories are expected to continue Friday and Saturday for high waves; no advisories expected for Sunday and Monday.
