Skies are mostly cloudy to cloudy early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures are not as cool as the last couple of mornings with readings ranging from 45 in Clifton down to 39 at Vernon and High Point. Winds are from the north-northeast to 10 mph. The air quality is good with an index of 21.

High pressure moving off the New England coast will give us a partly sunny day and it will become breezy by this afternoon.
A strong coastal storm will give us rain mainly beginning before sunrise on Thursday becoming heavy at times with a chance of a thunderstorm. Rainfall amounts will average between 1-2 inches with higher amounts possible. Winds will increase with gusts to 35 mph.
We will have clearing on Halloween but it will be quite windy through the evening with some gusts to 40 mph possible. Temperatures will be seasonably cool unlike last year when highs were in the 80s.
The weekend looks dry as high pressure builds over the area. Saturday will still be windy with less wind on Sunday.
Another weaker low pressure may give us some showers on Monday.

OUTLOOK: A gale warning has been posted effective between 6 a.m. Thursday morning through 10 p.m. Thursday night; gales expected to continue on Friday; small craft advisories expected for Saturday. No advisories expected for Sunday.
Hurricane Melissa smashed into southwestern Jamaica yesterday with 185 mph winds. The storm now is coming on shore in eastern Cuba with top winds of 120 mph.
