Rain is falling over much of the area early on this Friday morning and it is quite mild with readings ranging from 52 in Clifton down to 48 at High Point. Winds are gusty out of the south. The air quality is moderate with an index of 52.

A strong cold front will cross our area around noon preceded by showers heavy at times this morning with even a rumble of thunder or two. A strong southerly flow will boost temperatures in the 50s close to record highs. The front will followed by a strong westerly flow of colder air this afternoon with still a chance of a brief shower. The temperature will fall to the low 40s by sunset and into the 20s by early Saturday morning. Wind gusts over 40 mph are likely and a wind advisory is in effect through tonight.
Saturday will be cold and dry with diminishing winds as high pressure builds into the area.
Sunday will be milder but a cold front will come through dry in the evening.
Dry weather to continue on Monday with cold temperatures as high pressure builds into the area.
A weak disturbance will likely give us light snow changing to rain on Tuesday.
Milder Wednesday into Christmas Day but another weak disturbance will give us a chance of showers on Christmas.
THE FORECAST:
TODAY – DEC 19 – Showers heavy at times with a slight chance of a thunderstorm this morning then partial clearing this afternoon but with still with a chance of a shower. Temperatures in the mid-upper 50s this morning will fall to the low 40s by sunset. Winds will gust to over 40 mph.
TONIGHT – Mostly clear, windy and colder, lows in the mid 20s, wind gusts to 45 mph diminishing after midnight.
SATURDAY – DEC 20 – Mostly sunny with lighter winds, highs near 40.
SUNDAY – DEC 21 – Mostly sunny and breezy, highs in the upper 40s.
MONDAY – DEC 22 – Sunny and colder, highs in the upper 30s.
TUESDAY – DEC 23 – Mostly cloudy with light snow likely changing to light rain in the afternoon, highs near 40.
WEDNESDAY – DEC 24 – Mostly sunny, highs in the mid 40s.
CHRISTMAS DAY – DEC 25 – Partly sunny in the morning then mostly cloudy in the afternoon with a chance of light rain, highs in the mid 40s.
MARINE FORECAST: TODAY – A gale warning is in effect until 1 a.m. Saturday morning for southerly winds switching to westerly gusting to 45 knots, seas 7-12 feet.
