Skies are mainly cloudy early on this Sunday morning and there are some lingering showers in parts of the area. Temperatures are mild with readings ranging from 39 in Clifton down to 35 at High Point and Sandyston. Winds are light from the west. The air quality is good with an index of 27.

The frontal system that gave us the rain yesterday afternoon and at night is moving off the coast with any lingering showers ending around daybreak followed by clearing. A secondary cold front will cross the area later this afternoon possibly accompanied by some snow showers. It will become windy with gusts this evening to 35 mph.

High pressure will then build into the area for Monday and we should have mostly sunny skies with temperatures slightly above normal along with diminishing winds.

Tuesday and through the day on Wednesday it will be mostly cloudy to cloudy with mild temperatures.

The forecast remains quite uncertain for Wednesday night through the day on Friday as a coastal storm will develop. At the present time it looks like the system will stay to far to the east to affect our weather but the forecast for this storm will probably change.

TODAY – JAN 11 – Chance of an early shower then clearing. Chance of a snow shower later this afternoon and becoming windy, highs in the upper 40s, wind gusts to 25 mph.

TONIGHT – Partly cloudy and windy, lows in the upper 20s, wind gust to 35 mph.

MONDAY – JAN 12 – Mostly sunny with diminishing winds, highs in the low 40s.

TUESDAY – JAN 13 – Mostly cloudy, highs in the upper 40s.

WEDNESDAY – JAN 14 – Cloudy, highs near 50, chance of rain or snow at night.

THURSDAY – JAN 15 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain or snow, highs in the low 40s.

FRIDAY – JAN 16 – Mostly cloudy and colder, highs in the low 30s.

SATURDAY – JAN 17 – Mostly sunny, highs in the upper 30s.

MARINE FORECAST: A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. for westerly winds gusting to 30 knots, seas 3-6 feet.

OUTLOOK: A gale warning has been issued effective between 6 p.m. this evening through 6 a.m. Monday morning; lingering advisories possible during the day on Monday; no advisories expected for Monday night through the day on Tuesday; advisories possible Tuesday night through Wednesday; no advisories expected for Thursday.
