Skies are mostly clear early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures are the lowest so far this winter season with readings ranging from 8 above in Clifton down to frigid 9 below at Pequest. Winds are calm or light southwesterly. The air quality is good with an index of 25.

Since I started records in 1973, today January 21st, has the coldest average temperature of the year with highs averaging 32.6 degrees and the average low is 17.8 degrees.
After our very cold morning today will be less harsh in the afternoon with highs reaching the low 30s. Winds will be a little brisk this afternoon and evening. Also a weak warm front may cause some flurries this afternoon and evening.
Tomorrow will probably be the last day of above normal temperatures for the rest of the month as weak high pressure builds into the area. A cold front will come through dry in the evening.
Friday will be colder as weak high pressure builds into our area. An Arctic cold front will come through dry at night.
Frigid weather for the weekend and the probability of a significant snowstorm has increased for Sunday into Monday.
Much below temperatures are expected to continue much of next week.

MARINE FORECAST: A small craft advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. this afternoon through 7 a.m. Thursday morning for southwest winds gusting to 30 knots, seas 3-6 feet.
