Frigid weather to continue through the rest of next week but we should stay dry!

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Friday morning and temperatures range from 29 in Clifton down to 15 at High Point. Winds are from the west averaging 5-10 mph. The air quality is good with an index of 26.

High pressure building into the area will give us a partly sunny day today along with breezy conditions and near seasonable temperatures. An Arctic cold front will come through dry around sunset, followed by much colder air at night

Saturday will see an increase in cloudiness and it will be bitterly cold with high temperatures only in the teens and overnight lows in the single digits. Winds gusting to 20 mph will drop wind chills to below zero especially in the morning.

A major winter storm is expected for Sunday morning through Monday morning with snow developing around daybreak on Sunday and become heavy at times. The snow may mix with sleet in the evening. Accumulations should average 12-14 inches in the Clifton area, more to our north and west and less to our east where there may be more sleet mixed in.

The snow will taper off to flurries on Monday and it will remain very cold along with a brisk wind.

The rest of the week will be dry with much below normal temperatures. Highs mostly will be in the 20s while overnight lows will be mainly in the single digits.

SATURDAY – JAN 24 – Increasing clouds, breezy and bitterly cold, highs only in the upper teens, wind gusts to 20 mph.

SUNDAY – JAN 25 – Snow developing around daybreak becoming heavy at times possibly mixing with sleet in the evening, highs near 20. Snowfall accumulations of 12-14 inches.

MONDAY – JAN 26 – Snow tapering off to flurries in the morning, breezy, highs in the upper 20s.

TUESDAY – JAN 27 – Mostly sunny, highs near 20.

WEDNESDAY – JAN 28 – Mostly sunny, highs in the mid 20s.

THURSDAY – JAN 29 – Partly sunny, highs in the low 20s.

MARINE FORECAST: A small craft advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. this morning through 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon for northwest winds gusting to 30 knots, seas 3-5 feet. A freezing spray advisory has been issued effective between 7 p.m. this evening through 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

OUTLOOK: Advisories likely Saturday night; advisories expected Sunday and Monday with some gale gusts; advisories still likely for Tuesday.
