Skies are cloudy early on this Thursday morning and there is some dense fog and mist. Temperatures at 4:30 a.m. are still quite mild with readings ranging from 60 in Clifton down to 55 at Basking Ridge. Winds are mainly calm. The air quality is moderate with an index of 63.

A strong cold front will cross the area around sunrise this morning accompanied by some showers and followed by much cooler air. A weak disturbance along the front will continue the showers through this afternoon likely mixing and changing to wet snow before ending by this evening. Most accumulations will be on colder surfaces and the streets should just stay wet. Temperatures near 60 this morning will fall to the low 40s by this afternoon.

Friday will be dry as high pressure moves into the area. Temperatures will be near seasonable levels but it will be breezy.

The weekend weather looks to be mainly dry with continued near seasonable temperatures. Saturday will be mostly sunny but more clouds are likely for Sunday.

A strong frontal system will give us rain and possible some strong winds on Monday, temperatures will rise into the 60s. The rain may be heavy at times.

Much colder air but mainly dry Tuesday and Wednesday as a Canadian high pressure area builds toward our area.

TODAY – MAR 12 – Rain showers mixing with or changing to wet snow this afternoon, breezy, temperatures near 60 early this morning falling to the low 40s by this afternoon. Wind gusts to 30 mph.

TONIGHT – Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain and snow showers in the evening, clearing after midnight, lows near 30. Wind gusts to 25 mph.

FRIDAY – MAR 13 – Increasing cloudiness and breezy, highs in the upper 40s, wind gusts to 30 mph.

SATURDAY – MAR 14 – Sunny and breezy, highs in the low 50s, wind gusts to 30 mph.

SUNDAY – MAR 15 – Cloudy, highs near 50.

MONDAY – MAR 16 – Rain and windy, highs in the low 60s.

TUESDAY – MAR 17 – Chance of a morning shower then becoming partly sunny, colder, highs in the low 40s.

WEDNESDAY – MAR 18 – Mostly sunny, highs near 40.

MARINE FORECAST: A small craft advisory is in effect until 10 p.m. tonight for southwest winds becoming northwest gusting to 30 knots, seas 3-6 feet.

OUTLOOK: Advisories expected for Friday; no advisories expected Saturday through the day on Sunday; advisories expected Sunday night through Tuesday with some gale gusts on Monday.
