FRIDAY  SEPTEMBER 1, 2017  5:18 A.M.

Skies are mostly clear early on this Friday morning and temperatures are quite cool for the first day of September ranging from the mid 50s in the Clifton area down to the mid 40s further inland, there is a brisk northerly wind.

Despite mostly sunny skies it will be quite cool today with temperatures struggling to reach the 70 degree mark, humidity will be very low with dew points in the 30s.  Tonight will be very chilly with most low temperatures in the 40s with some 30s further inland.

We should see an increase in clouds on Saturday and again it will be quite cool, rain from the remains of Harvey are likely by evening and continue into Sunday, it will not be as cool on Sunday, expect 1/2 to one inch of rainfall.

Labor Day will be the best day of the holiday weekend with dry conditions and seasonably warm temperatures.

Tuesday will be warm once again but a slow moving cold front will give us a good chance of rain from Tuesday night into Thursday.

TONIGHT – Partly cloudy, low in the upper 40s.

SATURDAY – SEP 2 – Increasing cloudiness with a chance of rain after 2 p.m., high in the upper 60s, rain likely at night.

SUNDAY – SEP 3 – Rain likely with possible thunderstorms in the morning, chance of showers in the afternoon, not as cool, high in the upper 70s.

LABOR DAY – SEP 4 – Sunny, high in the low 80s.

TUESDAY – SEP 5 – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 80s, chance of showers at night.

WEDNESDAY – SEP 6 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers, high in the upper 70s.

THURSDAY – SEP 7 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers, high in the mid 70s.

 

MARINE FORECAST: Small craft advisory in effect till 11 a.m this morning, winds northerly diminishing to 13 knots this afternoon, seas 3 feet.   Belmar’s ocean temperature is 74 degrees.

OUTLOOK – No advisories expected Saturday through Monday with possible advisories on Tuesday.

 

TROPICS:  Major hurricane Irma is well out in the Atlantic with 115 peak winds, some models have the system threatening the East Coast by September 11th.

 

AUGUST 2017 CLIMATE SUMMARY.    August averaged about 1.5 degrees below normal with the highest temperature of 91 degrees set on the 1st and again on the 22nd.  The lowest temperature was 56 degrees set on the 27th.  Precipitation was near normal with 3.93 inches falling.
