Since I started records in 1973, today January 21st, has the coldest average temperature of the year with highs averaging 32.6 degrees and the average low is 17.8 degrees.

After our very cold morning, today will be less harsh in the afternoon with highs reaching the low 30s. Winds will be a little brisk this afternoon and evening. Also a weak warm front may cause some flurries this afternoon and evening.

Tomorrow will probably be the last day of above normal temperatures for the rest of the month as weak high pressure builds into the area. A cold front will come through dry in the evening.

Friday will be colder as weak high pressure builds into our area. An Arctic cold front will come through dry at night.

Frigid weather for the weekend and the probability of a significant snowstorm has increased for Sunday into Monday.

Much below normal temperatures are expected to continue much of next week.

Arctic high pressure will build into the area today and despite plenty of sunshine it will be very cold with highs only reaching the low 20s. Wind gusts to 25 mph will make it feel colder. Winds diminish tonight.

After a very cold Wednesday morning temperatures will moderate somewhat in the afternoon, skies will become mostly cloudy by the afternoon.

Thursday looks to be the only day that it will be above normal this week as high pressure moves offshore. A cold front will come through day at night.

Friday will be colder with partly cloudy skies. An Arctic cold front is expected to come through dry at night.

Frigid Arctic air for the weekend and a low pressure area developing to our south and west now looks like it may cause some significant snow Saturday night through Sunday night. Snow accumulations will depend on the track and the strength of this system.

Low pressure that gave us the snow yesterday is moving to the north and east as weak high pressure builds into the area. Today will be mostly sunny with temperatures a bit below normal. Winds will become brisk in the afternoon with gusts to 20 mph. An Arctic cold front will come through dry tonight.

Much colder but sunny on Tuesday, early morning lows will be well down into the teens and highs will struggle to reach the low 20s. With winds gusting to 25 mph will bring wind chills down to below zero.

Early Wednesday morning will be very cold but with much less wind. During the day will be mostly sunny and not as cold in the afternoon.

Thursday looks to be the mildest day of the week as high pressure moves off the coast, daytime highs may reach the 40 degree mark.

Cold weather again on Friday along with partly sunny skies. Another Arctic front will cross the area dry at night.

Frigid over the weekend as Arctic high pressure builds into the area. Daytime highs will be mostly in the teens while overnight lows will be in the single digits. A low pressure to our south may give us some snow on Sunday.

The air quality is moderate with an index of 83. Also there is some black ice on untreated sidewalks and roads, so be careful if you are going out this morning.

Yesterday’s disturbance over performed while the forecast was for less than an inch but up to 4 inches accumulated.

Also yesterday’s forecast was for only a 50% chance of some light snow for today but now it appears that the coastal low will be close enough to give us more snow. The snow will come through in two rounds the first will be this morning when mainly light snow will fall, then we may have a break in the storm midday through the middle of this afternoon. The second round is expected to give us heavier snow later this afternoon and evening. Accumulations of 2-5 inches are likely. Winds will be light.

The storm will move to our north and east on Monday and we should have mostly sunny skies with seasonably cold temperatures along with more wind. An Arctic cold front is expected to come through dry Monday night.

Bitterly cold later Monday night through early Wednesday with highs on Tuesday only in the low 20s with overnight lows both days around 10 degrees and in some areas wind chills will be below zero.

Sunny and not quite as cold Thursday and Friday as high pressure moves offshore.

A disturbance will give us a chance of rain or snow on Saturday.

A weak cold front approaching from the west will cause some light snow this morning possibly changing to light rain before ending this afternoon. Snowfall amounts should be near an inch in the Clifton area with somewhat higher amounts to our north and west.

Computer models now have the coastal low moving a little further to our west so now we have a 50% chance of some light snow. This time most of the snow will to our east with little or no snow to our west.

Next week looks to be mainly dry and cold. The coldest air will be Monday night through Tuesday night with overnight lows in the low teens while daytime highs will only in the low 20s. Some moderation in temperatures on Thursday.
