Our area has cloudy skies early on this Tuesday morning, there are some scattered rain or snow showers across the area mainly inland, temperatures range from the upper 30s in the Clifton area down to around 30 further inland, winds are light.

A low pressure will move through upstate New York today and its associated cold front will cross our area around midday, expect mild conditions ahead of the front along with some rain or snow showers, there should be no accumulation except maybe an inch or two in the Poconos and northwest New Jersey.  The front will be followed by a strong westerly flow of much colder air, temperatures will fall from the 40s today down to near 20 tonight.

Wednesday will be a dry but very cold day, winds will gust to 35 mph or more and with temperatures mostly in the 20s, wind chills will be in the single digits.

Cold weather will continue Thursday and Friday, there will be a slight chance of flurries on Thursday.  On Friday a storm is expected to develop offshore and at this time it is not expected to influence our weather, however the system bears watching in case it comes closer to the coast.

The weekend looks mainly dry, Saturday will be cool with moderating temperatures on Sunday.

MARINE FORECAST:  A small craft advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. this evening for southwest winds becoming west gusting to 35 mph, seas 3-6 feet.

OUTLOOK – A gale warning has been posted effective from 6 p.m. this evening until 6 p.m. Wednesday evening; small craft conditions Wednesday night into Thursday morning; no advisories expected Thursday afternoon through the day on Friday;  possible small craft conditions Friday night into Saturday.

MONDAY  DECEMBER 11, 2017  5:50 A.M.

Skies are cloudy early on this Monday morning and there are some flurries falling in parts of the area, temperatures range from the low 30s in the Clifton area down to the mid 20s further inland, winds are light.

A weak upper air disturbance causing the cloudy skies this morning will move offshore and we will see some sunshine this morning but another disturbance will cause an increase in clouds again by later this afternoon, temperatures will be near normal with highs in the low 40s.

A frontal system will likely give us some light snow changing to rain on Tuesday, accumulations inland may be around one inch before the changeover.   A deep low pressure will then intensify to our north bringing down  colder air Tuesday night with increase in winds.

Wednesday will be a very cold day with highs mostly in the 20s and with winds gusting to 35 mph will bring wind chill values down to the single digits.

Dry weather on Thursday with slowly moderating temperatures and less wind.

Another low pressure system will give us a chance of snow showers on Friday followed by a dry weekend with near seasonable temperatures.

SUNDAY  DECEMBER 10, 2017  5:57 A.M.

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Sunday morning and temperatures are cold with readings ranging from the upper 20s in the Clifton area down to the upper teens further inland, winds are light.  Some streets and sidewalks may be slippery so be careful if you go out this morning.    Yesterday I recorded 4.5 inches of snow.

Today we will have mostly sunny skies it will be breezy and seasonably cold with high temperatures near 40.

Tomorrow will be similar to today’s weather with sunshine and seasonably cold temperatures, however there will be less wind.

A frontal system is expected to develop mostly north of us Tuesday morning however there may be some snow with light accumulation changing to rain in the afternoon.

This storm will be followed by much colder air.  Wednesday’s highs will not get out of the 20s and with winds gusting to over 30 mph will drop the wind chill values down to the single digits.

Still cold Thursday and Friday and there may be another disturbance that may give us another chance of snow on Friday.

FRIDAY – DEC 15 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow, high in the mid 30s.

SATURDAY  DECEMBER 9, 2017   5:43 A.M.

Skies are cloudy early on this Saturday morning and temperatures range from the low 30s in the Clifton area down to the mid 20s further inland, winds are mainly calm.

Low pressure will move up the coast today, snow will be scattered and intermittent until mid or late morning but become steady and heavier this afternoon, snow should end around midnight, accumulations should be around 3-5 inches.

Sunshine returns on Sunday but it will be windy with temperatures slightly below normal.

Dry weather continues during the day on Monday with seasonably cold temperatures continuing.

The next disturbance will give our area a chance of snow or rain Tuesday morning.

Wednesday will be dry but very cold and windy.

Temperatures moderate a little for Thursday and Friday but still be below normal.

TUESDAY – DEC 12 – Cloudy with a chance of snow in the morning then becoming partly sunny, high in the low 40s.

WEDNESDAY – DEC 13 – Mostly sunny, windy and very cold, high only in the upper 20s.

FRIDAY  DECEMBER 8, 2017  5:48 A.M.

Our area has partly cloudy skies early on this Friday morning and temperatures range from the low 30s in the Clifton area down to the low 20s further inland, winds are light.

Today we will have an increase in clouds, temperatures will be a little below normal with highs mainly in the low 40s, high pressure will be moving through the area.

Yesterday at this time it looked that the precipitation would remain offshore for tomorrow but all the computer models now show the low pressure to be closer to the coast and this will lead to our first snow accumulation of the season.  Snow should start around or shortly after daybreak and continue through the day, expect 3-5 inches of snow with more along the coast and less inland.

Sunday and Monday will be dry with seasonably cold temperatures.

Another low pressure system will be moving in for Tuesday and depending on the track could give us more snow on Tuesday, followed by much colder weather for Wednesday through the end of next week.
