The coldest air of the season is now over us with 7am temperature here in Clifton of 8 degrees, however this reading is well short of my record low for the date of -3 set in 1976. The very cold weather will continue through Friday with daytime highs staying below the freezing mark. Now about the potential snow on Friday, this time yesterday it looked as if we would have a significant snowstorm of about six inches but the latest indications that the storm will not be that strong with my best guess now only 1-3 inches of snow mostly falling Friday evening, of course this forecast may change. The weekend should be dry and cold but not as frigid as the current air mass. Moderating temperatures next week, highs are likely reach the 40s by Tuesday.

Outlook – At least advisory level winds and seas on Thursday and again on the weekend.

Temperatures this morning have fallen into the teens and with winds 10-15 mph the wind chills are in the single digits. This bitter cold air will be with us the rest of the week as highs will be mostly in the 20s and overnight lows around 10 degrees. There will be plenty of sunshine the next three days but an occasional flurry can not be ruled out. On Friday a storm system will be approaching from the west and should spread snow into our area, timing and the intensity of the storm is hard to pinpoint this far out but my best guess now is for the snow to develop late Friday afternoon and continue Friday night with accumulations of around 6 inches. The storm will pull away on Saturday morning and it will be a chilly weekend but not as cold as this current cold spell. Moderating temperatures early next week.

It is much colder than the 50s that we had yesterday as temperatures this morning are around 20 degrees. Increasing clouds during the day as an Arctic front approaches, this front will cause snow showers this afternoon and night that will give us a coating to an inch of the white stuff. Arctic air will cover the area through at least Thursday with daytime highs only in the 20s while lows will be the coldest of the season falling to around 10 degrees. On Friday a storm system will be coming toward the area giving us a chance of snow, still plenty of time to watch this system but it could give us some moderate accumulations.
Dry and cold next weekend before a moderating trend develops early next week.

A cold front will come through around noon with brief strong gusty winds, however the front will come through dry, temperatures still will be in the 40s today but drop into the 20s by Monday morning. Daytime temperatures on Monday will be in the 30s. Another cold front coming through Monday afternoon, this time with snow showers that could give us an inch of the white stuff followed by the coldest air of the season that will continue most of this upcoming week. A stronger system around Friday may give us some significant snow.

Yesterday the daytime high only reached 32 degrees, today it will be at least 15 degrees milder despite a brisk wind. On Sunday a strong cold front will come through around noon, still highs will reach the 40s. Monday another cold front will usher in the coldest air so far this season for most of next week. Some flurries may occur on Monday. A possible stronger storm could give us a snowstorm as we approach next weekend.
