Skies are clear early on this Saturday morning and once again it is rather cool with temperatures ranging from 58 in Clifton down to 47 at Sandyston. We probably won’t be this cool again at least for the next week or more. Winds are calm or light southwesterly. The air quality continues to be good with an index of 43.

High pressure over us will give us another sunny day today with temperatures a few degrees warmer than yesterday with most highs in the lower 80s. The humidity will be slightly higher with dew points in the 50s.

An extended period of dry and hot weather with an increase in humidity will start tomorrow and last much of next week with highs mainly in the 90s and dew points rising to the mid to upper 60s.

A front may touch off some showers on Friday with cooler temperatures but the humidity will remain high.

MARINE FORECAST: TODAY – Variable winds less than 5 knots, seas 2 feet. Belmar’s ocean temperature is 72 degrees. There is still a high chance of rip current for our shore areas.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY:

August 2023’s average temperature was 73.7 which is 0.1 degree above normal but was the coolest August since 2014. The highest temperature was only 88 recorded on the 12th, 13th and 14th. This is only the third time in August in the last 50 years that the high temperature didn’t reach the 90 degree mark. Last August we had 17 days of 90 degree plus temperatures. Precipitation 4.44″ which is just about normal for August.

SUMMER 2023: Although the temperatures were near normal it was the coolest summer since 2009. Precipitation totaled 12.17″ which is slightly below normal.

A large area of high pressure moves into our area & will give us more very nice late summer weather today and on Saturday with plenty of sunshine, low humidity and near seasonable temperatures.

As the high pressure moves to our south we will have a southwesterly flow of much warmer air on Sunday with a slow increase in humidity.

We will have a hot and more humid day on Labor Day with highs in the 90s and dew points rising into the 60s.

Very warm weather to continue next week as high pressure will control our weather.

High pressure building from the Great Lakes will give us a mostly sunny day although we should have some high clouds from Tropical Storm Idalia that is well to our south. High temperatures will be slightly below normal with readings in the upper 70s. The humidity will be very low with dew points falling into the 40s. There is a high risk of rip currents along the shore from distant Hurricane Franklin.

The high pressure will move into our area on Friday and Saturday continuing the dry weather with near seasonable temperatures and again low humidity.

Dry and very warm to hot weather Sunday through much of next week, the humidity will rise but not be too oppresive.

A cold front will cross the area this morning accompanied by showers followed by northwest flow of drier air. Dew points near 70 today will fall to the 50s by tonight. Skies will become mostly sunny this afternoon.

High pressure will build into the area from the Great Lakes giving us very pleasant temperatures and humidity Thursday and Friday.

High pressure will continue to dominate our weather for the holiday weekend with plenty of sunshine each day. Highs on Saturday will be near normal and then be well above normal for Sunday and on Labor Day.

Much of next week will be dry and very warm to hot.

A weak front to our east will give us a mostly cloudy day, but it will be a little muggy with dew points in the upper 60s. There is a 20% chance of a shower during the day.

A cold front approaching from the west will likely give us showers and possibly some thunderstorms tonight into Wednesday morning, some showers will be heavy at times. We should have clearing by Wednesday afternoon, temperatures will be warm but the humidity will drop by late in the day.

High pressure will build into the region for Thursday and Friday with cool temperatures and low humidity.

The Labor Day weekend will be very nice with plenty of sunshine all 3 days. Highs will be near normal on Saturday and be above normal Sunday and on Labor Day.

At this point much of next week will be quite warm to hot.
