Skies are cloudy early on this Friday morning and there are some scattered showers falling over parts of the area.  Temperatures are more like summer with readings ranging from the upper 60s in Clifton down to the low 60s further inland, however across the Hudson Valley temperatures are in the low 50s as that area is north of a stationary front, winds are light southerly.

A slow moving cold front will be approaching the area today with quite mild and humid conditions ahead of it.  Scattered off and on showers are likely during the day today with highs near 70.  Heavy rain is likely tonight along with a chance of thunderstorms, rainfall amounts will average 1-2 inches, locally higher in some areas.

The rain will taper off to showers and end tomorrow morning and followed by a very strong westerly flow of much drier air, temperatures will not rise much of the overnight readings and fall late in the day.  A high wind watch is in effect as westerly gusts may approach 50 mph in the afternoon, these type of winds may bring down some trees and power lines.

Much calmer conditions on Sunday with seasonably cool temperatures.

Milder Monday through Wednesday along with a chance of showers followed by clearing a cooler weather for the end of next week.

OUTLOOK – A gale watch has been posted for Saturday afternoon and evening; no advisories expected on Sunday; small craft advisories again expected on Monday, no advisories expected during the day on Tuesday but advisories may be needed at night.

 

CLIFTON’S MONTHLY CLIMATE FOR OCTOBER 2018.

The average temperature was 55.9 degrees or about 1 degree above normal.  Highest temperature was 82 degrees recorded on the 7th and again on the 10th.  The lowest temperature was 32 degrees recorded on the 22nd.   Temperatures were well above normal for the first 12 days and well below normal for much of the rest of the month as we quickly went from Augustlike temperatures down to Novemberlike readings.

Rainfall was 3.61 inches which is slightly below normal, however there was some measurable rain on 16 of the 31 days.  The maximum rainfall was 1.07″ recorded on the 27th.

Skies are mostly cloudy early on this Thursday morning and temperatures are quite mild with readings ranging from the mid 50s in Clifton down to the upper 40s further inland, winds are mainly calm.

Today we will have a mix of clouds and sunshine and temperatures will rise to near 70 degrees as a southerly flow continues over the area.

A slow moving cold front will likely cause showers to develop tonight and continue through the day on Friday, it will continue to be unseasonably mild. The heaviest rain should be falling Friday night with a chance of thunderstorms.

Showers will continue on Saturday as the front crosses the area, most of the rain will be in the morning, temperatures will fall closer to normal and it will be windy.

Dry and seasonably cool weather Sunday and most of Monday.

Showers will be likely Monday night through Wednesday morning with above normal temperatures.

Skies are mostly clear early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures are chilly with readings ranging from the upper 30s in Clifton down to the mid 20s further inland, winds are mainly calm.

After a chilly start a southwesterly flow will bring milder air into the area along with plenty of sunshine, high temperatures should reach the 60s.  Very pleasant evening for the Trick-or-Treaters with temperatures only falling to around 60 this evening.

Quite mild on Thursday ahead of a slow moving cold front, showers from the front will reach the area at night and continue through Saturday, temperatures will be very mild Thursday and Friday but become cooler on Saturday after the frontal passage.

Sunday will be comfortably cool with plenty of sunshine.

Slightly milder early next week with showers again possible by Tuesday.

High pressure building into the area will give us plenty of sunshine, temperatures will be near normal with highs mostly in the upper 50s.

Milder on Halloween with again plenty of sunshine, the evening will be comfortable for Trick-or-Treating with temperatures near 60.

Even a little warmer on Thursday as we will have a southerly flow as high pressure moves offshore and a front approaches from the west.  Showers will develop at night.

Mild weather with showers on Friday that may last into Saturday morning as the front moves slowly through the region.

Dry and comfortably cool weather on Sunday for the New York City Marathon.

Skies are cloudy early on this Monday morning and there are some scattered showers over parts of the area, temperatures are mainly in the mid to upper 40s and the winds are light.

A weak disturbance that caused some light showers is moving offshore and we will have partial clearing today, it will become breezy, temperatures will be a couple of degrees below normal.

High pressure building into the area will give us another dry and cool day on Tuesday with less wind.

Much milder temperatures on Halloween with highs reaching well up into the 60s along with continued dry conditions.

Thursday may even be milder with highs reaching near 70 degrees.  There will be a chance of showers at night.

A slow moving cold front will likely give us showers again Friday into Saturday morning along with cooler temperatures.

At this point Sunday looks to be dry with near seasonable temperatures.
