A low pressure will be moving into the area and then off the coast today, snow will develop this morning and continuing into this evening. Snowfall accumulations of 1-3 inches are likely with more snow across central and southern New Jersey and less snow across the Hudson Valley.

Arctic high pressure will then build into the area from the west this weekend giving us very cold air. Saturday will be the coldest day with highs only in the 20s. Slightly milder on Sunday with highs in the low 30s.

Milder temperatures next week but another low pressure system will give us a good chance of precipitation Tuesday afternoon through Thursday, most of the precipitation will be in the form of rain but some snow may mix in Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Thursday morning and temperatures are chilly again with readings ranging from 19 in Clifton down to 5 at Pequest. Winds are light from the west-southwest. The air quality is moderate with an index of 55.

CLIFTON’S ALMANAC FOR JANUARY 18TH:

High pressure to our south will be moving offshore and we should see an increase in clouds today, temperatures will not be as cold as yesterday but will still be slightly below normal.

A weak low pressure system will give us mainly light snow from around 7 a.m. Friday morning until around 10 p.m. Friday night. At this time accumulations will average 2-4″ in the Clifton area with slightly more accumulation across the central part of New Jersey. This snow should be much easier to shovel as we will have no rain to pack the snowfall down.

Arctic high pressure will then bring down very cold air for the weekend. Highs on Saturday will only be in the 20s and then slightly rise to the low 30s on Sunday, winds will be a little brisk both days.

A milder trend will start on Monday with above normal temperatures much if not all of next week. Most of the week will be dry but there is a chance of light rain Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Winds are a little gusty out of the northwest. The air quality is good with an index of 30. Be careful walking or driving this morning as there may be black ice on untreated sidewalks and roads.

Strong Arctic high pressure centered over the lower Mississippi Valley will give us a west-northwest flow of very cold air, high temperatures will only be in the 20s and it will feel colder as some gusts to 25 mph are possible. At least the skies will be sunny.

Becoming cloudy on Thursday with highs a couple of degrees higher than today.

A weak low pressure area is expected to give us light snow on Friday. Accumulations of 1-2 inches are expected with a little more to the south and less to our north.

The low pressure will be followed by another Arctic high pressure and the weekend looks to be quite cold and wiindy.

Mainly dry weather early next week with moderating temperatures.

A weak low pressure will move offshore today and we will continue to have mainly light snow although the snow may be mixed with some sleet and freezing rain at times. An additional 1-2″ of snow accumulation is likely.

Cold Arctic high pressure will then be with us Wednesday and Thursday with dry weather.

Another rather weak low pressure area will likely give us more light snow from around midnight Thursday night through Friday evening.

The weekend looks to be dry and very cold.

Next week looks to be milder with above normal temperatures.

High pressure will be moving offshore as a weak low pressure approaches from the south. We should see an increase in clouds today, it will be cold but with much less wind than the last few days.

The low pressure will likely cause some light snow mainly from midnight tonight through noon on Tuesday, possible accumulations 1-3 inches.

High pressure then builds into the area with dry and cold conditions both Wednesday and Thursday.

Another low pressure system will likely give us more snow on Friday.

High pressure then builds again for the weekend but it will be quite cold.

Looking ahead next week looks to be milder.
