Skies are cloudy early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures range from around 30 in Clifton down to the mid 20s further inland, winds are light from the northwest. There are some slippery areas on untreated roads and sidewalks so be careful if you are traveling early this morning.

The low pressure that caused the precipitation yesterday and overnight is moving further offshore and we should still be mostly cloudy today but temperatures will moderate somewhat with highs near 40.

Another storm will be developing offshore on Thursday but far enough away to not give our area any precipitation, but will cause a strong northerly flow of colder air on Thursday.

The coldest two day period of the season will occur Friday into Saturday with highs only in the 20s and overnight lows in the low teens. Winds will continue to be strong on Friday but diminish on Saturday.

Still another low pressure area will move into the area on Sunday which will give us a good chance of snow later Sunday into Monday. Too early to tell what the track and intensity of this storm will be and if we get any significant snowfall.

A weak area of low pressure will be moving through the area today with light snow developing around 11 a.m. mixing with light freezing rain in the afternoon and night. Frozen accumulations of 1-2 inches are likely and a winter weather advisories are in effect.

Some lingering light snow is possible early on Wednesday morning then some partial clearing is expected, temperatures will be a little milder with highs mainly in the low 40s.

High pressure building into the area on Thursday as a strong storm will be well offshore that will cause colder and windy conditions.

Friday and Saturday may be the coldest days so far this season with highs only in the 20s and overnight lows in the lower teens. Winds will be gusty on Friday but relax a little on Saturday.

Another storm system will give us a good chance of snow on Sunday possibly changing to rain on Monday. At this time it is too early to determine if there will be any significant accumulations of snow.

Weak high pressure will give us a dry day today and it will not be as cold or windy as we experienced over the weekend, high temperatures will be near 40 degrees. We should have mostly sunny skies after early morning cloudiness.

A couple of weak low pressure areas will affect our weather Tuesday into Wednesday morning with a light mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain, accumulations should be around 1-2 inches.

The storm that we have been tracking now looks to be well south and east of our area on Thursday with no precipitation expected.

The coldest air of the season is possible Friday as a piece of the polar vortex will move into the area. Daytime highs will only be in the 20s and overnight lows in the lower teens. Winds will be brisk so wind chills will fall to near zero at times.

Continued dry and quite cold on Saturday.

Another low pressure may give us some snow on Sunday, but we have plenty of time to track this system. At this time any accumulations will be on the lighter side.

High pressure building into our area from the west will give us a mostly sunny day. Winds will be gusty this morning and slowly diminish this afternoon. High temperatures will be a couple of degrees higher than on Saturday, but it still will be a cold January day.

Slightly milder on Monday and we should see an increase in clouds by the afternoon, winds will be much lighter than this weekend.

A weak low pressure will likely give us mainly light snow on Tuesday with possible accumulations of 1-3 inches.

After a dry and seasonably cold Wednesday another stronger storm is expected to develop off the Carolina coast and move northeast on Thursday but at this time models have the system too far south to give our area any significant precipitation.

Dry and seasonably cold weather for Friday and Saturday but still another low pressure may give us some precipitation on Sunday.

YESTERDAY’S HIGH: 46 LOW: 33 PRECIPITATION: NONE

High pressure will build into the area from the mid-west causing a brisk northwest flow of colder air. High temperatures will struggle to reach the freezing mark and with northwest winds gusting to 30 mph will make it feel like the teens all day despite mostly sunny skies.

The high pressure will then be near our area on Sunday, temperatures should be a couple of degrees higher, winds will slowly diminish throughout the day.

A weak low pressure will be moving south of our area on Monday but close enough to cause some light snow Monday night into Tuesday, accumulations should be around 1-3 inches.

High pressure will then give us dry weather Wednesday into part of Thursday, temperatures will be seasonably cold.

Watching for a potential stronger storm at the end of next week. Most models have the storm too far to our south and east to give us any snow but the latest GFS model has the storm close enough to our area to cause heavy snow. So stay tuned for later forecasts.
