Skies are cloudy early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures range from the upper 20s in Clifton down to 20 further inland. There are some snow flurries still falling in the area. Winds are northwest around 5-10 mph.

The low pressure that caused the heavy snow is slowly weakening and moving off further offshore, but skies in our area will remain cloudy with some flurries mainly this morning. Winds will be a little brisk with gusts to 20 mph.

Finally we will see some sunshine on Thursday as the low pressure loosens it’s grip on our area and high pressure builds from the west.

A weak frontal system will cause some light rain and snow on Friday with no snow accumulation expected.

Saturday will be a dry with seasonably cold temperatures.

Most computer models now have the storm to be too far to our east to cause any impact in our area but that could change if the storm is closer to the coast.

Much colder weather will return for much of next week but as of now no significant storms are expected.

Very light snow is still falling across the area and temperatures range from the upper 20s in Clifton down to the low 20s further inland, winds are brisk out of the north.

The low pressure that gave us the historic snowstorm yesterday is moving slowly away and weakening. Total snow accumulation since Sunday night in Clifton was 19.0″ with amounts of over 2 feet in some areas further inland. Today will be a cloudy and breezy day with occasional snow showers. Additional accumulations of about an inch is possible.

The storm will move further away on Wednesday and we should see some clearing by the afternoon with seasonably cold tempertures.

Another dry day on Thursday with continued seasonable cold temperatures.

A weak frontal system will give us a good chance of mainly light rain on Friday, possibly beginning and ending as light snow.

Cool on Saturday with a low chance of light snow.

Then we may have to deal with another snowstorm on Sunday, as a storm is expected to form off the Carolina coast and move northeast toward our area.

Much colder again early next week.

CLIFTON CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR JANUARY 2021:

Temperatures averaged 3.5 degrees above normal; Highest temperature was 51 degrees on the 2nd with the lowest of 13 degrees on the 29th and 30th. It was a dry month with precipitation totaling 2.92 inches. Snowfall was below normal with only 4.0″ accumulating, half of that amount occurred on the evening of the 31st.

Light snow is falling over the area early on this Monday morning the first day of February and temperatures range from the low 20s in Clifton down to the lower teens further inland, winds are brisk from the north-northeast.

CLIFTON’S ALMANAC FOR FEBRUARY 1ST:

AVERAGE HIGH: 37 AVERAGE LOW: 22

YESTERDAY’S HIGH: 23 LOW: 17 PRECIPITATION: .15″ SNOWFALL: 2.0″

Mainly light snow fell overnight with approximately 4.0″ accumulating as of 5 a.m. However as the low pressure intensifies snow will become very heavy later this morning and continue heavy through this evening. Winds increasing to 35 mph or more will cause blizzard conditions at times with considerable blowing and drifting snow. Intense snow bands may cause snowfall rates of 2-3 inches per hour. Total snow accumulations by midnight tonight will be between 18-22 inches with some higher amounts possible.

Mainly light snow on Tuesday as the storm weakens and slowly pulls away, an additional 1-2 inches of new snow is possible. Winds will continue to be brisk with blowing and drifting snow likely.

Dry weather and a little milder Wednesday and Thursday.

A frontal system will give our area a chance of rain occasionally mixed with snow Friday into the weekend with again slightly milder temperatures.

Low pressure now near St. Louis will redevelop off the Virginia coast tonight and move slowly northeast on Monday. Today will be a cloudy and chilly day but with light winds.

Snow should develop around sunset late this afternoon and become heavy at times on Monday, winds will increase on Monday with possible blizzard conditions at times, the snow should taper off on Tuesday. At this time expected accumulations of 16-20 inches are expected in the area with higher amounts possible if some heavy bands of snow occur. Light snow is expected on Tuesday will an additional inch or so of accumulation.

Dry weather Wednesday and Thursday with near seasonable temperatures.

A frontal system will give us a chance of rain Friday into Saturday possibly mixed with snow at times, temperatures will be slightly above normal.

Skies are mostly clear early on this Saturday morning and it is quite cold, at 5 a.m. temperatures ranged from 13 in Clifton down to a frigid 4 degrees at Walpack. Winds are much lower than this time yesterday averaging northwest 5 -10 mph.

High pressure will be building closer to our area today providing mostly sunny skies, it will still be quite cold but with much less wind than yesterday.

Sunday will be a dry and again cold day and winds will be light, we should see some increasing cloudiness during the day as the storm system approaches from the Mississippi valley.

The storm system will then move east and redevelop off the coast, snow from this system will not start till after midnight Sunday night and continue possibly heavy at times into Monday night with increasing winds. The snow should end Tuesday morning. Still a question on the track and intensity of the storm but at the present time accumulations should be between 8-12 inches but with some higher amounts possible. A winter storm watch is in effect from late Sunday night into Tuesday morning.

Wednesday and Thursday will be dry with moderating temperatures.

The next storm system will give us a chance of precipitation on Friday but at this time it should be mild enough for only rain with this system.
