Sunshine returns today after our record November snowstorm! Dry and cool weather for the weekend!

Good morning!

Rain is falling over much of the area early on this Friday mornings and temperatures are mainly in the low to mid 30s across the area.  Some of the rain may be coming down as freezing rain well inland.

Yesterday we had our biggest November snowstorm on record as I recorded 6.2″ of snow, my records date back to 1973. In Central Park the 6.0″ recorded there was also a record and their records go back to 1869.   The evening commute home was terrible for many people as the snow came down too heavy for the plows or salters to keep up with clearing the roads before the rush hour started.   For some commuters a 30 minute trip turned out to be four hours or more.

The coastal low responsible for the snow is moving just off the New Jersey coast and will move up to the Canadian maritimes today.  Rain from the storm should end by 9 a.m. and we will see some sunshine this afternoon,  temperatures will rise in the 40s which will help melt some of the storm but it will be windy.

Quiet weather for this weekend as high pressure builds into the area, we should see sunshine on Saturday but be cloudy on Sunday. A weak disturbance will give us a chance of showers Sunday night.

The rest of next week looks to be mainly dry but chilly with Wednesday being the coldest day with highs in the 30s.

After a chilly start on Thanksgiving with readings well down into the 20s temperatures will moderate into the 40s by the afternoon. Skies will be mostly sunny.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – NOV 16 – Rain ending by 9 a.m then becoming mostly sunny and windy with gusts up to 35 MPH, high in the mid 40s.

TONIGHT – Mostly clear, low in the low 30s.

SATURDAY – NOV 17 – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 40s.

SUNDAY – NOV 18 – Cloudy, high in the mid 40s, chance of showers at night.

MONDAY – NOV 19 – Becoming partly sunny, high in the mid 40s.

TUESDAY – NOV 20 – Mostly cloudy, high in the low 40s.

WEDNESDAY – NOV 21 – Sunny and cold, high in the mid 30s.

THANKSGIVING DAY – NOV 22 – Mostly sunny, high in the low 40s.

MARINE FORECAST:  A gale warning is in effect until 4 p.m this afternoon for westerly winds gusting to 35 knots, seas 6-12 feet.

OUTLOOK – No advisories expected Saturday through Tuesday.

Enjoy the sunshine today!

The low pressure will move north of the area on Friday with the rain ending around 8 a.m. followed by clearing, windy and chilly conditions.

The weekend should be dry with below normal temperatures.
