MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 2017  5:54 A.M.

Skies are mostly cloudy early on the day after last night’s exciting Super Bowl, temperatures are on the mild side ranging from the upper 30s in the Clifton area to the low 30s further inland, winds are light.

Today a weak area of high pressure will cause clearing after morning clouds, temperatures will be seasonably mild.  Clouds will increase tonight ahead of the next storm system.

The storm will move into the Great Lakes and a warm front will be crossing the area during the day, rain will develop in the morning with freezing rain well inland across the Poconos and extreme northwest New Jersey which should change to rain after the morning commute.  The heaviest rain should occur Tuesday afternoon and evening along with rising temperatures.

Possible record temperatures on Wednesday ahead of a cold front that will pass through in the evening possibly accompanied by some showers.

After posting in my blog yesterday that there was no signs of a significant snow for a couple of weeks it now looks like a storm will develop offshore and there will be enough cold air to produce rain changing to snow, accumulations may be significant with 4-6 inches possible.

After the storm it will be colder the rest of Thursday into Friday followed by milder temperatures over the weekend along with a chance of showers.

TONIGHT – Becoming cloudy, chance of rain after 3 a.m., low in the mid  30s.

TUESDAY – FEB 7 – Rain, temperatures rising to near 50 by evening.

WEDNESDAY -FEB 8 – Partly sunny and quite mild with a chance of showers, high in the upper 50s.

THURSDAY – FEB 9 – Mostly cloudy with snow likely mainly in the morning, much colder, high only in the mid 30s.

FRIDAY – FEB 10 – Sunny, high in the mid 30s.

SATURDAY – FEB 11 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of light rain or drizzle, high in the low 40s.

SUNDAY – FEB 12 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of light rain, high in the mid 40s.

MARINE FORECAST:  TODAY – Northwest wind to 13 knots, seas 1-2 feet.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 5, 2017 6:01 A.M.

Skies are mostly cloudy early on this Sunday morning and temperatures are a little milder than this time yesterday ranging from the upper 20s in the Clifton area to around 20 further inland, winds are light.

Today we see mostly cloudy conditions with milder temperatures, highs will be around 5-8 degrees higher than what was recorded yesterday.  High pressure will be moving off the coast and a southwest flow will dominate, there is an outside chance of a flurry of sprinkle but most areas will stay dry.

A weak cold front will cross the area tonight but Monday’s temperatures will still be slightly above normal, the day will start off sunny with increasing cloudiness later in the day.

A rather strong storm system will give us mostly rain Tuesday into Wednesday although inland may see a wintry mix Tuesday morning, temperatures will become quite mild late Tuesday into Wednesday.  A cold front will cross the area Wednesday afternoon.

Colder air but dry Thursday and Friday as high pressure moves into the area.

The cold air will be short lived as milder than normal air will once again be with us next weekend along with a chance of some showers.

February is usually our snowiest month but there is no signs of any significant snowstorms for at least the next two weeks.

We have mostly clear skies early on this Saturday morning and temperatures are quite chilly ranging from the upper teens in the Clifton area to the lower teens further inland, winds are light.

An Arctic high pressure system will be in control of our weather today giving us plenty of sunshine but it will remain cold with highs in the 30s.

Sunday will be mainly dry except for some flurries or sprinkles inland, after a cold morning temperatures in the afternoon will rise to the 40s as winds becoming southwesterly as the Arctic high pressure moves offshore and a weak cold front moves through in the evening.

Monday will be a dry day with near seasonable temperatures.

A significant storm system will affect the area Tuesday into Wednesday with mainly rain although the precipitation may start off as a wintery mix especially inland. Temperatures will become quite mild Tuesday night into Wednesday as a warm front pushes north of the area,  a cold front will cross the area Wednesday night.

Colder again but dry at the end of next week.

Skies are mostly clear early on this Friday morning and temperatures are colder than the last several days with readings ranging from the mid 20s in the Clifton area to the mid teens further inland, actually these temperatures are close to normal, winds are light from the northwest.

An Arctic high pressure area will be over our area today and tomorrow with mainly dry conditions although there may be some flurries this afternoon mainly inland, temperatures will be cold both days with highs only in the 30s.

A weak system moving through the Great Lakes will cause increasing cloudiness on Sunday with only a chance of some flurries or sprinkles, afternoon temperatures will not be as cold.

Mainly fair with temperatures a little above normal on Monday.

A stronger low pressure system will affect our area Tuesday and Wednesday, precipitation will likely begin on Tuesday as a wintery mix and then change to all rain as warmer air moves into the area on Wednesday.

Colder again at the end of next week with mainly mostly fair skies.

Skies are mostly cloudy to cloudy across the region on this Thursday morning and tempertures range from the low 30s in the Clifton area to near 20 in the colder inland areas, winds are nearly calm.

A weak cold front will come through during the day today, the front should come through dry but a couple of snow flurries inland can not be ruled out, temperatures should reach the low 40s which is slightly above normal for early February.

Rather cold and dry Friday and Saturday with temperatures below normal.

Latest indications that the storm that was expected for Sunday will stay disorganized only giving our area a low chance of light snow or flurries.

A stronger storm will affect our area Tuesday into Wednesday, milder air will move in so most of the precipitation will fall as rain but may start as a wintery mix especially inland on Tuesday.

Colder again at the end of next week.

CLIFTON, NJ, JANUARY 2017 CLIMATE SUMMARY:

January 2017 was the warmest January since 2006 and the 5th warmest since 1973, the average temperature was 35.9 degrees which was about 6 degrees above normal.  Precipitation was just slightly above normal with 4.39 inches, snowfall was below normal with 8.3 inches.  It was a very cloudy month with over 50% of overcast conditions which was the highest amount of cloud cover for January since at least 1973.
