Coastal storm to give the area strong winds and heavy rain today through early Tuesday! Dry Wednesday through the weekend!


JANUARY 23, 2017  6:10 A.M.

Skies are cloudy early on this Monday morning and temperatures are mild ranging from the low 40s in the Clifton area to the low-mid 30s further inland, winds are strong from the east-northeast direction with gusts to 35 mph.

A very strong low pressure area was over Tennessee this morning and is expected to redevelop off our coast today, some light rain with this system will move into the area this morning but the heaviest rain will be falling this evening and continue into Tuesday morning, expect 1-3 inches of rain.  Strong winds with gusts over 45 mph is expected through the day and tonight with the highest amounts across coastal areas.  Temperatures will gradually fall from the low 40s this morning into the 30s by this afternoon and some of the inland areas of northwest New Jersey may have some sleet and freezing rain in fact some of the rain may be mixed with sleet at times in the Clifton area.  A storm warning and coastal flood warning is in effect.

Rain will taper off to showers on Tuesday and winds will slowly diminish.

Dry weather is expected Wednesday through the weekend, Wednesday will be quite mild but colder temperatures to near normal levels can be expected by the weekend.

MARINE FORECAST:  Storm warning in effect for northeast winds gusting to 65 mph, seas 13-18 feet.

OUTLOOK – Gales expected to continue on Tuesday; no advisories expected on Wednesday with possible small craft conditions Thursday and Friday.

Mild with a chance of rain developing this afternoon! Coastal storm to give us heavy rain and winds Monday into Tuesday!


Skies are cloudy early on the Sunday morning and there is considerable fog, a dense fog advisory is in effect, temperatures are again quite mild ranging from the mid 40s in the Clifton area to the upper 30s further inland, winds are nearly calm.

Today will be a cloudy and mild day and as low pressure develops to our southeast, there will be a chance of rain mainly after 3  p.m. with generally light rain overnight.

On Monday the coastal low will develop just offshore with rain becoming heavy at times by the afternoon, winds will increase to near 50 mph in the Clifton area with higher winds along coastal areas, at least minor coastal flooding is likely.  Further inland there will be some sleet or freezing rain during the storm mostly in the higher elevations.  Generally 1-3 inches of rain is expected with some higher amounts.

The storm will only slowly move away from the area on Tuesday but showers will likely continue most of the day, winds will be lighter.

Dry weather is expected from Wednesday into next weekend, temperatures will be well above normal Wednesday and Thursday and fall back to near normal winter temperatures from Friday through the weekend.

Dry and mild today! Significant coastal storm Sunday night through Tuesday will produce strong winds and heavy rain!


Skies are mainly cloudy early on this Saturday morning and there are some areas with fog, temperatures once again are well above normal with readings ranging from the low 40s in the Clifton area to the mid 30s further inland, winds are nearly calm.

Today will be a mild and dry day however there will be considerable cloudiness but even with the clouds temperatures will rise into the 50s, weak high pressure will be moving offshore.

A significant coastal storm or nor’easter will affect our area from late Sunday into Tuesday as a strong complex low pressure system moves into the area.  Rain from this system will develop by late Sunday afternoon and continue heavy at times especially on Monday, some areas well north and west of our area may see some freezing rain or sleet.  Very strong winds will accompany the storm with gusts above 50 mph possible especially over coastal areas, the rain will taper off to showers on Tuesday, total rainfall will average 1-3 inches with some higher amounts possible.

Dry weather is expected Wednesday through the end of next week, Wednesday and Thursday will be mild with more seasonably cool weather starting Friday and continuing through next weekend.

Cloudy day today with light rain this afternoon and evening! Pleasantly mild and dry on Saturday! Significant coastal storm to affect the area Sunday night into Tuesday!


Skies are cloudy on this Friday morning and temperatures once again are well above normal ranging from near 40 in the Clifton area to around 30 in the colder inland valleys, winds are light.

Today we will have considerable cloudiness with light rain which will fall from around 3 to 7 p.m., rainfall amounts will be less than 1/4 of an inch, most high temperatures will be in the 40s. Down in Washington DC there will be some rain falling as our new president is inaugurated at noon today but as of now no lightning bolts are expected.

Saturday will be a very pleasant day with quite mild temperatures along with partly sunny skies.

A significant coastal storm will be moving into the area by Sunday afternoon with rain developing becoming heavy at times on Monday before tapering off to showers on Tuesday.  At this time the precipitation should fall as all rain except for areas well north and west of our area.  Strong winds especially over the coastal areas on Monday with widespread minor coastal flooding expected. Rainfall amounts should average 1-3 inches with higher amounts possible which would help our drought situation.

Mild and dry Wednesday and Thursday with colder air moving in by late next week.

Sunshine returns today with mild temperatures! Light rain Friday afternoon and evening! Mild and dry Saturday! Stronger rainstorm likely Sunday afternoon through Tuesday!


Skies are mostly cloudy early on this Thursday morning and temperatures range from the upper 30s in the Clifton area to the low 30s further inland, these readings are about 15 degrees above the normal low tempertures for this time of year.

Today will be a pleasantly mild day with sunshine finally returning, temperatures are expected to reach the 50s and with light winds it will feel quite comfortable for the middle of winter.

A weak disturbance will cause some light rain Friday afternoon and evening.

Saturday will be another pleasant day with sunshine and mild tempertures.

A stronger low pressure system will cause rain from Sunday afternoon through Tuesday with Monday being the wettest day with strong winds and coastal flooding likely, total rainfall amounts during this period will average 1-2 inches with higher amounts possible depending on the track of the storm.

Mild and dry weather Wednesday and Thursday with a possible return to colder and more normal tempertures by the end of next week.
