At daybreak on this Thanksgiving morning we have cloudy skies, temperatures are a little above freezing in the Clifton area to a little below freezing inland, winds are light.  Be careful driving and walking on untreated roads and walkways this morning.

Yesterday in Clifton we picked up around 3 inches of snow, inland especially the higher elevations reported much more snow accumulations ranging up to 11.5 inches at Highland Lakes in Sussex County.  Much less snow fell to our east with less than an inch in New York City.

Today we will have mainly cloudy skies with a chance of a flurry mainly across inland sections, temperatures will be below normal topping off near the 40 degree mark.

Black Friday will be mostly sunny with continued chilly temperatures.

The weekend will be mostly cloudy, Saturday will be chilly but milder weather is in store for the area on Sunday.

Monday will continue to be mild with a chance of showers as a cold front moves across our area.

Cooler and dry on Tuesday but milder again on Wednesday  with again a chance of showers.

At daybreak this morning rain is moving into the area and temperatures are still on the mild side ranging from the mid 40s in the Clifton area to the upper 30s further inland, winds are from the north around 10 mph.

The storm that we have been following is now expected to be a little closer to the coast which means that it will take a little longer for the precipitation to change to all snow.  In the Clifton area rain will start to mix with snow late this morning and change to all snow by 2pm and continue as snow tonight ending around midnight, accumulations of 4-6 inches of wet snow is expected.  Further inland the rain will change to snow before noon and accumulation there will range from 6-12 inches.  Further east will see more rain and accumulations for New York City should be less than 2 inches. Still I have low confidence on the snow amounts with this storm as temperatures are very marginal for all snow.

The storm system will move away on Thanksgiving Day with cloudy skies persisting with a chance of snow flurries and cold temperatures.

Dry and chilly weather Friday and Saturday.

Milder on Sunday and Monday with a chance of showers on Monday as a cold front moves through.

Dry and seasonably cool on Tuesday.

Milder weather next Wednesday through at least next Friday.

We have mostly cloudy skies at daybreak this morning and it is still quite mild with temperatures in the upper 50s.

Today will become mostly sunny, temperatures will slowly fall through the day into the low 50s by this afternoon, still above normal for this time of year.

The fun begins tomorrow or not so much fun if you are traveling, rain will begin around daybreak and change to snow late in the morning, the snow will continue till around 10pm on Wednesday.  The tricky part of the forecast is the snow accumulations, it is difficult to predict where the heaviest banding will occur also how fast the temperatures do fall, a degree or two makes a whole lot of difference in those accumulations.  I will take a crack at it and say that 6-8 inches will fall in the Clifton area, less to our east and south and up to 8-12 inches across the northwest part of the state before the snow ends at night.

Thanksgiving Day will be dry and chilly with mostly cloudy skies.

Dry weather will continue Friday into early next week, temperatures will be below normal Friday and Saturday rising to above normal levels Sunday and Monday.

Long range for next week looks to be mild with no frigid air or snow in sight.

We have rain this morning and temperatures have shot up to around 60 degrees along with strong southerly winds gusting to 35 mph.

Rain will taper off to showers this morning and  end by 11 am followed by partial clearing this afternoon, temperatures will rise to near 70 degrees but winds will continue to be strong gusting 30-35 mph.

A cold front will cross the area late tonight, temperatures will be cooler on Tuesday but still be above normal, winds will still gust at times to 25 mph.

Now for the winter effect taking shape for Wednesday into early Thanksgiving morning, a coastal low pressure system will be moving along the coast and depending on the track and strength of the storm will determine the snow amounts for our area. The rain and snow line will be very near to the Clifton area and how it appears right now is that precipitation will begin as rain Wednesday morning then change to snow after 2pm and continue into the night ending around 2am Thanksgiving morning.  For snow amounts I am thinking about 2-4 inches for the Clifton area, less to our east and south and more inland were 6-12 inches may occur.  I have very low confidence on the snow amounts and I am glad I don’t get paid for these forecasts.

Looking further ahead it looks like temperatures will be mild next week especially after next Tuesday.

It is much milder this morning than yesterday with temperatures in the low 40s in the Clifton area to the upper 30s further inland which is about 20 degrees warmer than this time yesterday, skies are mostly cloudy and the winds are light.

We should have partly sunny skies today with temperatures reaching the low 50s which is just a little bit above normal for this time of year but after this past cold snap it will feel quite comfortable.

Clouds will increase tonight with rain developing around midnight and ending Monday morning, rain may be heavy at times with an inch of rainfall is possible.

After the rain it will become partly sunny during the day and unseasonably warm with highs near record levels reaching the 70 degree mark.

A cold front will cross the area Monday night and Tuesday will be cooler but with highs in the 50s.

Now for Wednesday, a coastal storm will be developing and moving up the coast, the track and the strength of the storm is still not clear but as of right now it appears that we will have mostly rain starting around midday possibly beginning as a mix or snow or rain, at night colder air will be moving into the area and changing the rain to snow which may accumulate a few inches inland before ending on Thanksgiving morning.  The forecast will probably change the next few days so keep tuned as this may affect travel especially inland.
