Skies are partly cloudy early this morning and temperatures are still rather cold with readings in the mid teens in the Clifton area but readings are as low as -6 in Walpack, NJ to 40 degrees in Atlantic City.

Skies will quickly become cloudy with precipitation moving in this morning, we will have a period of freezing rain until this afternoon when most of the area will change to plain rain.  A freezing rain advisory is in effect inland…

Rain will continue tonight with temperatures rising into the 40s.

An Arctic cold front will cross the area on Monday morning with rain ending and followed by much colder air with temperatures plummeting to the single digits by Tuesday morning and with strong wind gusts the wind chill will fall well below zero.

Tuesday will be a brutally cold and windy day despite sunshine with highs only a bit above 10 degrees and wind chills again well below zero.

A moderating trend will start on Wednesday and temperatures will rise to above normal by next weekend.   There is a chance of light snow Thursday night into Friday morning and some rain showers next weekend..

The forecast: Today – Freezing rain developing this morning mixed with snow, changing to all rain this afternoon, high near  40.

Tonight – Rain, temperatures rising to the mid 40s.

Monday – Rain ending by 2pm then clearing and much colder, morning highs in the mid 40s will drop to the 30s by sunset and to the single digits by Tuesday morning.

Tuesday – Mostly sunny, very cold and windy with highs only around 12.

Wednesday – Sunny, high in the mid 20s.

Thursday – Mostly cloudy, high in the mid 30s.  Chance of light snow at night.

Friday – Chance of morning light snow, mostly cloudy, high near 40.

Saturday- Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain showers, high in the mid 40s.

Marine Forecast: Today – Southeast wind to 9 knots, seas up to 3 feet.

Small craft advisory in effect from this evening to Monday afternoon and a gale watch from Monday evening into Tuesday.

Outlook – Small craft advisory till Wednesday morning then conditions lowering to below advisory levels Wednesday night and Thursday.

Temperatures early this morning have dipped to 2 degrees above zero in Clifton ranging to -10 in many of the inland areas, in fact some inland spots in Southern New Jersey are now below zero.  Luckily  the winds have died down from yesterday.

With sunshine today temperatures will rise into the 20s and with continued low wind speeds it will feel more comfortable than yesterday.

The temperatures will stay steady overnight and may rise a couple of degrees by Sunday morning.  There is a slight chance of freezing drizzle early in the morning but the main area of precipitation should not reach our area till Sunday afternoon and at that time temperatures will rise above freezing so all the precipitation should fall as plain rain.

Rain will continue into Monday early in the afternoon ahead of a very strong Arctic that will pass through the area around mid-day, temperatures in the 40s in the morning will plummet to the 20s in the afternoon and the single digits at night.

Tuesday will be another brutally cold and windy day with highs only in the low teens and along with very strong winds the wind chills will fall to lower than -20.

Moderating temperatures on Wednesday that should continue into next weekend as our roller-coaster winter weather continues.. No big storms are on the horizon but we may have some snow showers on Thursday night.

At 6:15am this morning snow is still falling but should be tapering off in an hour or two, so far we have about 5 1/2 inches in the Clifton area and we should end up with about 6 inches or so before the snow ends this morning.  Temperatures are around only 10 degrees and wind chills below zero..

Today after the snow ends it still will be frigid with highs only in the teens with wind chills remaining below zero.

Tonight winds will diminish but with the fresh snow cover along with clear skies temperatures should fall to the coldest readings since Jan 17, 2009, falling to near zero in the Clifton area to -10 further inland.

Moderating temperatures during the day Saturday with highs about 10 degrees higher than today.

Sunday another storm system will give us mainly rain as highs reach the 40s, however some of the rain will start off as a mixture of snow, sleet and rain..

The rain will end on Monday but another Arctic blast will move in by Monday night, temperatures in the 40s in the morning will plummet to the single digits by Tuesday morning.

Another frigid day on Tuesday with highs only in the 10-15 degree range.

Moderating temperatures starting Wednesday through next weekend with no big winter storms.

Snow flurries have broken out in the Clifton area early this morning, temperatures have fallen to the low 20s in most areas with a brisk northeast wind.

During most of the day we will only have light snow mixed with some freezing drizzle, little or no accumulation is expected.

The coastal storm will really start cranking up tonight with snow becoming moderate to heavy at times along with winds gusting past 40 mph will cause near blizzard conditions along with falling temperatures.  The worst part of the storm will be from around 9pm till 3am Friday morning.  Accumulations will average 6-8 inches but blowing snow will cause higher drifts making travel very hazardous…

The snow should taper off on Friday morning and end around noon, it will remain windy with high temperatures only in the teens.

Friday night will be bitterly cold with temperatures falling to near zero in the Clifton area but 10-15 degrees below zero inland which would make this the coldest temperature in five years.

Slight moderation on temperature on Saturday with lighter winds with highs in the 20s.

Milder still on Sunday along with rain developing that may start off as a mix of snow in the afternoon but all areas will just be plain rain.

Rain most of the day on Monday followed by another blast of Arctic air on Tuesday.

Milder weather towards the end of next week as our roller coaster winter weather continues!

Happy New Year!   This morning skies are partly cloudy and temperatures are in the teens.

Today will be the calm before the storm, there will be an increase in cloudiness with most high temperatures in the 30s.

Light snow should begin around daybreak on Thursday and remain light during the day with about an inch or maybe two accumulating by late afternoon..  Heavier snow at night into Friday morning accompanied by strong winds and bitterly cold temperatures. There is a chance of blizzard conditions overnight.  Total snow accumulation 5-9 inches.

The snow will taper off and end before 10am on Friday but it will be frigid with high temperatures only reaching the teens and with strong winds the wind chills will be well below zero.

Low temperatures on Friday night may be the coldest in years with single digits in the Clifton area with below zero readings further inland…

Saturday will still be very cold but with less wind.

Moderating temperatures on Sunday with a good chance of rain Sunday night into Monday,

Bitterly cold again next Tuesday with a warming trend starting next Wednesday.
