On Tuesday the warm front will be slowly moving through the area with temperatures becoming mild. Another very cold morning after the inch of snow we had yesterday evening, temperature at 6:30am was 12 degrees. Today will be a little more bearable as temperatures this afternoon reach into the upper 20s. Lots of sun on Sunday and we bay be able to crack the freezing mark for the first time in several days. A warm front will be approaching on Monday but ahead of it expect some precipitation that may be an annoying mix of snow, freezing rain and rain into Monday evening. The warm front is expected to move through on Tuesday, still a chance of rain but temperatures will rise to near 50. Even warmer on Wednesday ahead of a cold front, highs are likely to rise well into the 50s. Colder Thursday and Friday but it should not be as frigid as our past cold wave.

Have a great day!

Cold Arctic air holding tough: A little snow this evening!

Temperatures this morning are a couple of degrees milder than yesterday’s as I am recording 10 degrees at 6:30am. Increasing cloudiness will occur today and although high temperatures are still going to remain below freezing the winds will diminish and it will feel less harsh than yesterday. The system that we have been following all week will likely cause some light snow from around 5-10PM this evening, less than an inch is expected but when the snow does fall it will immediately stick on the roads and will likely cause slippery conditions. The weekend will be dry and cold with high temperatures again staying a little below freezing. A little milder on Monday but there is a chance of rain that may fall as freezing rain inland. Much milder air on Tuesday and Wednesday along with a chance of showers.. Colder at the end of next week but not as frigid as the last few days.

The forecast: Today – Increasing cloudiness with light snow likely after 5PM, high in the upper 20s.
Tonight – Light snow till around 10PM, less than an inch of accumulation, low in the mid teens
Saturday – Partly sunny, high in the upper 20s.
Sunday – Sunny, high in the low 30s.
Monday – A chance of rain after 2PM, may be freezing rain well inland, high in the upper 30s.
Tuesday – Mostly cloudy and warmer, high near 50. Showers possible at night.
Wednesday – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers, quite mild, high in the low 50s.
Thursday – Partly sunny, high in the low 40s.

Marine Forecast: Today – West-northwest wind to 12 knots, seas to 2 feet.
Outlook – Small craft advisories may be needed on Saturday and again on Tuesday.

Have a great weekend!

Bitter cold weather continues today, a little snow later tomorrow!

Temperature this morning is a whole degree higher than yesterday at this time as we are at 9 degrees at 6:30am but the wind has become light so it may not seem as bad as yesterday, however the wind will again pick up by this afternoon and with temperatures in the low 20s it will again feel uncomfortable to be outside. On Friday clouds will increase and light snow will develop around 4pm and last into the evening, at the present time only an inch or two of accumulation is expected. The weekend will be cold but not as frigid as this past few days. Moderating trend early next week with readings approaching 50 degrees by Wednesday along with an increase of rain chances.

The forecast:
Today – Mostly cloudy this morning then becoming mostly sunny, becoming windy, high in the low 20s.
Tonight – Mostly clear, low around 10.
Friday – Increasing clouds with light snow mainly between 4-9PM, an inch of accumulation expected, high in the low-mid 20s.
Saturday – Mostly cloudy with a chance of scattered flurries, high in the upper 20s.
Sunday – Sunny, high in the low 30s.
Monday – Mostly cloudy, high in the upper 30s.
Tuesday – Mostly cloudy, high in the mid 40s.
Wednesday – Mostly cloudy, chance of rain showers, high near 50.

Marine Forecast: Small craft advisory issued till midnight tonight, northwest wind to 30 knots, seas up to 5 feet.
Outlook: Sub-advisory level conditions on Friday but advisories likely be needed for the weekend, dropping below advisory conditions early next week.

Have a good day!

Bitter cold weather continuing; Chances of a siginificant snowfall on Friday are lower!

The coldest air of the season is now over us with 7am temperature here in Clifton of 8 degrees, however this reading is well short of my record low for the date of -3 set in 1976. The very cold weather will continue through Friday with daytime highs staying below the freezing mark. Now about the potential snow on Friday, this time yesterday it looked as if we would have a significant snowstorm of about six inches but the latest indications that the storm will not be that strong with my best guess now only 1-3 inches of snow mostly falling Friday evening, of course this forecast may change. The weekend should be dry and cold but not as frigid as the current air mass. Moderating temperatures next week, highs are likely reach the 40s by Tuesday.

The forecast:
Today – Increasing clouds with a chance of afternoon flurries, high near 20.
Tonight – Mostly cloudy with a chance of flurries, low near 10.
Thursday – Mostly cloudy in the morning then clearing, high in the low 20s.
Friday – Becoming cloudy with a chance of snow late in the afternoon continuing at night, minor accumulations expected, high in the low-mid 20s.
Saturday – Partly sunny, high in the upper 20s.
Sunday – Mostly sunny, high in the low 30s.
Monday – Mostly cloudy, high in the upper 30s.
Tuesday – Partly sunny, high in the low 40s.

Marine Forecast: Small craft advisory till 2pm for northwest winds gusting to 25 knots, seas 4 feet.
Outlook – At least advisory level winds and seas on Thursday and again on the weekend.

Stay warm!

Cold Arctic air has arrived! Watching a potential snowstorm for Friday!

Temperatures this morning have fallen into the teens and with winds 10-15 mph the wind chills are in the single digits. This bitter cold air will be with us the rest of the week as highs will be mostly in the 20s and overnight lows around 10 degrees. There will be plenty of sunshine the next three days but an occasional flurry can not be ruled out. On Friday a storm system will be approaching from the west and should spread snow into our area, timing and the intensity of the storm is hard to pinpoint this far out but my best guess now is for the snow to develop late Friday afternoon and continue Friday night with accumulations of around 6 inches. The storm will pull away on Saturday morning and it will be a chilly weekend but not as cold as this current cold spell. Moderating temperatures early next week.

The forecast:
Today – Partly sunny, chance of a flurry, high in the mid 20s.
Tonight – Partly cloudy, low around 10.
Wednesday – Partly sunny with again a chance of a flurry, high in the low 20s.
Thursday – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 20s.
Friday – Snow likely developing in the afternoon, continuing Friday night, high in the upper 20s.
Saturday – Partly sunny, high in the upper 20s.
Sunday – Sunny, high in the low 30s.
Monday, Partly sunny, not as cold, high in the upper 30s.

Marine Forecast: Gale warnings through this evening, west winds gusting to 35 knots, seas up to 7 feet.
Outlook – Small craft advisory conditions for most of the Wednesday through Sunday period.

Have a good day!
