The powerful storm that gave us strong winds yesterday but little or any precipitation in our area has moved further out to sea but it is close enough to give us a breezy and cloudy day with some light snow this morning changing to rain this afternoon, little or no accumulation during the day today. Another disturbance will be moving toward our area tonight and with a northerly wind the rain will change over to snow around 9pm and continue into Friday morning before tapering off to rain showers in the afternoon. Accumulations should average around 2-4 inches.
Finally clearing weather by the weekend and it will be mild with high temperatures in the low 50s.
Even milder on Monday with a chance of showers as a cold front approaches our are and passes through at night, high may reach close to 60 degrees.
Somewhat cooler air but dry conditions most of the rest of next week.

The forecast: Today – Cloudy with some light snow this morning changing to light rain by this afternoon, breezy, high near 40.  Little or no daytime accumulation!
Tonight – Rain, changing to snow by 9pm, accumulating 1-3″ by Friday morning, low around 30.
Friday – Light snow in the morning with another inch possible changing to rain showers in the afternoon, high in the low 40s.
Saturday – Sunny, high in the low 50s.
Sunday – Partly sunny, high in the low 50s.
Monday – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers, high in the upper 50s.
Tuesday – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers, high in the low 50s.
Wednesday – Partly sunny, high near 50.

Marine forecast: Gale warnings till 6am on Friday for northerly winds to 40 knots, seas up to 20 feet today diminishing to 11 feet late tonight.
Outlook – Small craft advisory likely the rest of Friday but condition should lower to below advisory levels on the weekend.

The storm off the Virginia coast is moving very slowly offshore and although we didn’t receive any snow yet with the system we have had the winds especially this morning gusting to above 45 mph. The only precipitation so far was in the form of rain and it was scattered. Coastal flooding has occurred along the New Jersey coast. We are not out of the woods yet, some snow is expected after 9pm tonight and there may be a coating in some spots by Thursday morning. Some light snow during the day on Thursday but most of that will accumulate only on cold surfaces. The most snowfall should fall Thursday night into Friday morning due to a colder northerly flow from the slow moving storm system offshore with an additional 1-3 inches possible. Gusty winds to at least 40 mph through Thursday night. At least the weekend still looks very springlike with temperatures in the 50s with plenty of sunshine.

The coastal storm is intensifying off the Virginia coast and winds have already picked up gusting to 25mph, temperatures right now are in the upper 30s. A very tricky forecast as far as snow amounts are concerned but I will give it my best guess. A mix of rain and snow will develop mostly after 12 noon that will change to all snow around 6PM, about a 1/2 inch of snow may be on the ground by evening. The snow will continue tonight into Thursday morning with an additional 3 inches by Thursday morning.
The snow will taper off by noon on Thursday but light snow mixed with rain may linger into Thursday evening with another 1/2″ falling.. This storm will be slow moving and we still may have some light snow into Friday morning with another inch or two before ending. Total accumulation through Friday morning will be 3-6 inches however as I said it is a tricky forecast. One thing is for certain that we will have strong winds gusting to 35 MPH through Thursday night and their will be coastal flooding.
On the bright side once this storm moves away we will have a rather nice and mild spring-type weather with plenty of sunshine and temperatures 50 degrees or higher.
Mild weather will continue into early next week but there will be a chance of showers Monday night.

Tonight – Snow, accumulating 1-3 inches by morning, wind gusts to 35 MPH, low in the low 30s.
Thursday – Snow in the morning, with a chance of rain or snow in the afternoon, another 1/2″ of snow possible, high near 40, wind gusts to 35 MPH.
Thursday night – Cloudy with a chance of snow, low in the low 30s.
Friday – Chance of snow ending by noon, another 1-2″ possible, high in the low 40s.
Saturday – Sunny, high near 50.
Sunday – Mostly sunny, high in the low 50s.
Monday – Mostly cloudy, chance of a shower in the evening, high in the low 50s.
Tuesday – Partly sunny, high near 50.

Marine Forecast: Storm warning from 11am today through Thursday afternoon.
Northeast wind becoming north gusting to 50 knots, seas rising to 17 feet by Thursday.
Outlook. Small craft advisory likely will continue into Saturday morning before lowering to below advisory levels Saturday afternoon continuing into Sunday.

This morning temperatures at daybreak are mostly in the upper 20s with mostly clear skies.
During the day today it will feel much more comfortable than the last couple of days as we will have plenty of sunshine and much lighter winds and temperatures a few degrees higher.
The well advertized storm will start to affect our area toward Wednesday morning with precipitation beginning after the morning rush, most areas will have mainly light rain mixed with snow during the day. By evening colder air and strong winds will occur changing the precipitation to all snow, the computer models are still not coming together on how much snow we will receive Wednesday night into Thursday morning but my best guess now is around 4 inches. On Thursday snow in the morning may change to light rain in the afternoon. We lowered temperatures for Friday as the storm will be slow to move offshore and there is still a chance of light rain or snow.
Milder and dry Saturday through Monday with most high temperatures 50 degrees or a little above along with plenty of sunshine.

Friday – Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain or snow, high in the low 40s.

Marine Forecast: Today – Northwest winds gusting to 25 knots early this morning, diminishing to 10 knots by evening and becoming northeast.
Outlook – Storm warnings may be needed Wednesday into Thursday. Small craft advisory likely for Friday but drop below advisory levels on the weekend.

Most of the computer models now have this storm to be further north than were indicated the last few days. Heavy wet snow along with strong winds and coastal flooding is becoming more likely with the heaviest snow falling late Wednesday into early Thursday morning… The European model is still the only holdout giving us only a glancing blow, this model nailed the track of Sandy but most of this winter has not performed as well as the other models.. More details with possible accumulations will be in my update tomorrow…
