Flurries today with snow tonight into Wednesday morning! Mainly dry and cold Thursday and Friday! Coldest air of the season over the weekend!

Skies are cloudy early on this Tuesday morning and temperatures are rather uniform over the area mainly in the low to mid 20s, winds are light.  We have had a dusting of snow overnight with accumulations in Clifton less than 1/2 inch.  Some spots in the Hudson Valley received around 2 inches for their first accumulating snow of the season there.

A couple of disturbances will be moving through the area today into Wednesday morning causing snow flurries during the day today but the disturbance tonight should be stronger and produce around 3-5 inches of snow which will end tomorrow morning.

We should see some sunshine by Wednesday afternoon with temperatures reaching close to 40.

Colder but mainly dry and windy Thursday and Friday.

An Arctic cold front will be moving through the area Friday night which may give us some snow showers Friday night into Saturday morning.

The coldest air of the season will be over us for the weekend and despite plenty of sunshine both days high temperatures will struggle to reach the low 20s, low temperature Saturday night will be close to zero and with brisk winds bringing the wind chill values well below zero.

Moderation in temperatures next week.

Light snow likely today and tomorrow with chances of snow showers Wednesday and Thursday! Frigid over the weekend!

Skies are cloudy over the region this Monday morning and temperatures are still on the mild side ranging from the mid 30s in the Clifton area to some upper 20s further inland, winds are northeast 5-10 mph.

A strong storm offshore will move northeast but a band of snow extending westward is now just off the Northern New Jersey coast, this band is likely to move into the area this morning and continue this afternoon, snow amounts should total around 2-3 inches with less to our west and more to our east.  Temperatures should slowly fall into the low 30s this afternoon.  This light snow should end tonight.

Another low pressure area is expected to form off the coast with light snow in our area on Tuesday and we may pick up another inch or so of the white stuff.

An upper air trough is expected to be over the area Wednesday and Thursday with snow showers likely along with cool temperatures.

An Arctic front will cross the area on Friday, followed by frigid weather over the weekend.  We should stay dry but the latest European model is indicating some snow on Saturday.

Well I had the right score 24-10 but the wrong team winning.  Congratulations Denver fans.

Have a good day!

Mild and dry weather for this Super Bowl Sunday! Periods of mainly light snow likely Monday afternoon into Wednesday! Very cold next weekend!

Skies are clear early on this Sunday morning and temperatures are seasonably cool ranging from the mid 20s here in Clifton to some upper teens in the colder inland areas, winds are nearly calm.

After a cool start temperatures will become mild today with plenty of sunshine and light winds, today will probably be the nicest day of this upcoming week.

Still a low confidence forecast for the next few days as one strong low pressure system will move off the Carolina coast probably too far out to sea to give us any significant snow, however another low is expected to develop on Tuesday closer to our area that will likely give us some snow.   There is even a chance of some more snow showers for Wednesday.  At this time total accumulations from these systems will range from about 2 inches in Clifton area with less to our west and more to our east.  Still a complicated pattern so stay tuned for further updates.

Dry weather is expected Thursday through next weekend with below normal temperatures with the weekend being downright frigid.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – Sunny, high in the mid 40s.

TONIGHT – Increasing cloudiness, low in the low 30s.

MONDAY – Mostly cloudy with a chance of light snow developing in the afternoon, high in the upper 30s.

TUESDAY – Cloudy with snow likely, high in the mid 30s.

WEDNESDAY – Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow showers, high in the upper 30s.

THURSDAY – Partly sunny, high in the low 30s.

FRIDAY – Partly sunny, high near 30.

SATURDAY – Mostly sunny, high only in the upper 20s.

MARINE FORECAST:  TODAY – Northeast wind to 9 knots, seas 2 feet.  A gale warning has been issued from 8 p.m. tonight till noon on Monday.

OUTLOOK – Small craft advisories likely Monday night through Thursday with gales possible.

Have a good day and enjoy the game.     My prediction  Carolina 24  Denver 10.

Pleasant weekend with seasonably mild temperatures! Some snow likely Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning!

Skies are clear early on this Saturday morning and temperatures are chilly ranging from the mid 20s in Clifton to the upper teens in some of the outlying areas, winds are light.

After a cool start today will become milder as high pressure to our south will provide the area with plenty of sunshine on southwest winds.

Continued sunny weather on Sunday with highs a couple of degrees warmer than today.

A very complicated forecast Monday through Wednesday as two low pressure systems will affect the weather, the first one is a storm now developing off the Carolina coast, this storm will be quite strong but it should be far enough offshore and not give us any heavy snow and wind.  The second low will develop closer to our area on Tuesday but will be weaker.  At this time I will forecast light periods of light snow Monday afternoon through Wednesday morning but my confidence in the forecast is quite low in this complex set up.

Clearing and quite cold weather Thursday through next weekend.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – Mostly sunny, high in the low 40s.

TONIGHT – Partly cloudy, low in the upper 20s.

SUNDAY – Sunny, high in the upper 40s.

MONDAY – Mostly cloudy with light snow likely developing in the afternoon, high in the upper 30s.

TUESDAY – Cloudy with light snow likely, high in the mid 30s.

WEDNESDAY – Mostly cloudy with a chance of light snow in the morning, high in the upper 30s.

THURSDAY – Partly sunny, high in the low 30s.

FRIDAY – Partly sunny, high in the low 30s.

MARINE FORECAST:  TODAY – Southwest wind to 10 knots, seas 1 foot.

OUTLOOK – Gale watch for Sunday night into Monday.  Small craft advisory or possible gale warnings Tuesday and Wendesday.

Have a good day!

Snow this morning then becoming sunny this afternoon! Dry weekend weather! More snow likely Monday night into Tuesday!

Snow is falling early on this Friday morning and temperatures are near the freezing mark across the area, winds are from the north averaging around 10 mph.

Yesterday morning I said that we would only have a slight chance of snow with higher chances to our east but the front stayed just offshore and a low pressure has formed closer to our area causing the snow in much of the area.  Snow should continue this morning and give us around 2-3 inches of the white stuff.  Temperatures are expected to be at or above freezing so most of the accumulation should just be on colder surfaces, still there may be some slippery roads mainly on secondary roads so be careful heading out this morning.  Sunshine will return this afternoon with highs near 40 which will help melt the snow.

The weekend will be dry with temperatures slightly above normal.

A storm is expected to develop off our coast on Monday night which will likely give us snow into Tuesday, at this time it is difficult to pinpoint accumulations but my best guess it will be a mainly light to moderate event.

Dry and cold but not frigid weather is expected the rest of next week.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – Snow this morning then becoming mostly sunny this afternoon, breezy with highs near 40, accumulations 2-3 inches.

TONIGHT – Mostly clear, low in the mid 20s.

SATURDAY – Sunny, high in the low 40s.

SUNDAY – Sunny, high in the upper 40s.

MONDAY – Partly sunny in the morning then becoming mostly cloudy, high in the upper 30s,  snow likely after midnight.

TUESDAY – Mostly cloudy with snow likely, high in the upper 30s.

WEDNESDAY – Partly sunny, high in the upper 30s.

THURSDAY – Mostly sunny, high in the low 30s.

MARINE FORECAST:   Gale warning in effect till 4 p.m. this afternoon for northerly winds gusting to 35 knots, seas 5-8 feet.

OUTLOOK – No advisories expected Saturday into the day on Sunday but advisories likely Sunday night into Tuesday.

Have a good day!

Clearing after morning fog! Possibly a little snow eastern sections Friday morning! Dry and pleasant weekend!

Temperatures are still very mild across the area early this Thursday morning with readings ranging from the mid 50s here in Clifton to the mid 40s further inland, skies are cloudy and there is some drizzle and fog in the area, winds are nearly calm.  I did write last Thursday morning that by this time the snowpack would be all but gone and that seems to be the case over much of the area as mild temperatures along with yesterday’s heavy rain melted the snow.

A cold front will cross the area this morning followed by clearing, high temperatures will be reached this morning and fall slowly this afternoon as cool air moves into the area.

A low pressure disturbance will develop along this front offshore on Friday morning and may give some snow to areas just to the east of us as Long Island and coastal New Jersey could have light accumulations while areas to our west will not see any precipitation.   Skies should clear late in the day.

A tranquil weekend is anticipated with plenty of sunshine and temperatures slightly above normal.

An unsettled pattern early next week as colder air moves into the area and a couple of low pressure areas develop, too soon for details but there is a chance of more significant snow during this period.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – Slow clearing and mild with highs in the mid 50s.

TONIGHT – Mostly cloudy and cooler with a slight chance of light rain or snow, low in the low 30s.

FRIDAY – Mostly cloudy in the morning then becoming partly sunny, high in the low 40s.

SATURDAY – Mostly sunny, high in the mid 40s.

SUNDAY – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 40s.

MONDAY –  Partly sunny, high in the upper 30s, chance of snow at night.

TUESDAY – Mostly cloudy with a chance of snow, high near 40.

WEDNESDAY – Partly sunny, high in the upper 30s.

MARINE FORECAST:  Small craft advisory in effect till 6 p.m. on Friday, winds southwest becoming northwest gusting to 25 knots, seas 5-7 feet, diminishing tonight.

OUTLOOK – No advisories expected most of the weekend with possible small craft conditions Sunday night into Monday.

Have a good day!

Rain and quite mild today! Clearing on Thursday and still rather mild!

We have cloudy skies early on this Wednesday morning,  temperatures are on the mild side ranging from 40 degrees in Clifton to near 30 in some of the colder inland areas, winds are nearly calm.

A storm moving through the Great Lakes with a cold front extending from the storm will approach the area today, rain will develop this morning along with quite mild temperatures with highs approaching the 60 degree mark.  The heaviest rain will fall from late this afternoon into this evening with an average of 1 1/4″ of rainfall expected.

Clearing on Thursday and after a mild night temperatures will rise only a few degrees reaching the low 50s.

Dry weather is expected Friday through the weekend with temperatures slightly above normal.

The groundhog looks to be wrong about an early spring as next week we may have a snowstorm on Tuesday followed by cold Arctic air the rest of next week.

Have a good day!

A very pleasant Groundhog Day! Quite mild on Wednesday with rain!

Skies are clear early this Tuesday morning and although it is cooler than this time of year readings are still above normal ranging from the mid 30s here in Clifton to the mid 20s further inland, winds are light.

Today will be a very nice day with plenty of sunshine, light winds and high temperatures approaching the 50 degree mark.  It will not be a “repeat” of last year’s Groundhog Day when we received 7 inches of snow.

A storm system will be moving to the Great Lakes as a warm front associated with the system passing to our north tomorrow morning followed by a cold front late at night.  Rain will develop in the morning and become heavy at times before tapering off in the evening, expect around 1 1/4″ of rainfall, temperatures will rise to near 60 degrees.

Clearing will take place on Thursday and it will still be mild as there will not be much cold air behind the system, highs will be around 50.

Dry weather will continue Friday through the weekend with temperatures continuing to be slightly above normal.

My guess is that Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow and we will have six more weeks of winter.   And the computer models are also indicating quite cold weather the end of next week into the following weekend.

A weak cold front will cross the area this afternoon accompanied by some showers, it will be rather mild once again with highs in the 50s.

Tuesday will be a dry day with only slightly cooler temperatures.

A rather strong storm will be moving through the middle of the country up to the Great Lakes, its associated cold front will be approaching our area on Wednesday giving us very mild temperatures along with showers, these showers may be heavy at times with even a possible thunderstorm, rainfall amounts will average one inch.

Dry weather is expected Thursday through the weekend, it will be cooler but temperatures will be slightly above normal.
