Today will be a mostly cloudy day and it should not be as warm as yesterday but become more humid. There will be a chance of some light showers mainly this evening as a weak cold front approaches our area. The Passaic River is still at a moderate flood range but will be slowly falling the next couple of days.

Labor day looks to be a fine late summer day with plenty of sunshine, seasonably warm temperatures and the humidity will be dropping by the afternoon.

Tuesday looks to be a sunny with continued warm temperatures.

A stronger cold front will give our area a chance of showers on Wednesday, temperatures will continue to be warm with an increase in humidity.

At this point dry weather with comfortable temperatures and humidity is expected Thursday through next weekend.

High pressure will dominate our weather today and we will enjoy mostly sunny skies, high temperatures will be near seasonable levels and the humidity will stay low.

More clouds on Sunday as a weak warm front approaches our area followed by a weak cold front along with a low chance of an evening shower.

Labor Day should be mostly sunny and temperatures will be a little warmer.

Tuesday will be sunny and continued warm.

A stronger cold front will give us a good chance of showers on Wednesday along with higher humidity.

High pressure will then control our weather at the end of next week with dry conditions with near seasonable temperatures and lower humidity.

Note: The Passaic river at Pine Brook and Little Falls continue to be at major flood levels and will be cresting today and then only slowly fall Sunday through the beginning of next week.

Today will be a nice late summer day as high pressure continues to dominate our weather. Temperatures and humidity will be similar to yesterday, however there will be less wind.

The good weather will continue much of the holiday weekend and the only chance of a shower will be Sunday afternoon and evening as a weak cold front crosses the area.

Seasonably warm weather can be expected next week and it will be mainly dry but another weak cold front may cause a shower on Wednesday.

Ida caused historic flooding last night as it moved through our area. Total rainfall in Clifton was 8.44″ with the rain ending shortly after 1 a.m. The worst part of the storm was around 9 p.m. when rain rates were as high as 5.10″ and there was considerable lightning and thunder and winds gusting to 35 mph.

Today will be a pleasant day as we dry out with sunshine returning along with cool temperatures and low humidity. However there will still be major river flooding the next few days.

Pleasant weather will continue through the holiday weekend with only a low chance of an afternoon and evening shower on Sunday. Temperatures will be slightly below normal Friday and Saturday and then above normal Sunday through the middle of next week. The only other chance of a shower will be with a cold front on Wednesday.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR AUGUST 2021:

The month was quite warm with an average temperature of 77.0 degrees which was 3.3 degrees above normal. Highest temperature was 98 degrees on the 13th, the lowest temperature was 59 degrees recorded on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd. It was also quite wet with 10.08″ of rain falling with 6.75″ totaling during Tropical Storm Henri from the 21-23rd.

SUMMER MONTHS SUMMARY:

Temperatures averaged 2.7 degrees above normal and rainfall was well above average with 21.08″ accumulating making this the 3rd wettest summer months since my records began in 1973.

The remains of Hurricane Ida will be approaching our area today. Rain with this system will be mainly light and intermittent during most of the day today, but as the storm gets closer torrential rain will fall in our area from late this afternoon until around daybreak on Thursday. Some rainfall rates could be between 1-2 inches an hour with total rainfall averaging 3-6 inches with higher amounts possible. Due to our wet ground from Tropical Storm Henri considerable flooding is expected. A flash flood watch is in effect. Also there is a chance of some small tornadoes with the best chance of some spin-ups will be across the central and southern parts of the state.

The storm will move offshore on Thursday with rain ending by daybreak followed by mostly sunny skies by the afternoon and it will be breezy with much less humidity.

Tranquil weather Friday through most of the Labor Day weekend as high pressure builds into the area. Most of the time it will be dry but there is a chance of showers Sunday afternoon and night. Temperatures will be a little below normal Friday and Saturday and be a bit above normal Sunday and on Labor Day.
