Skies are cloudy early on this first day of the New Year and temperatures once again are unseasonably mild with readings at 5 a.m. ranging from 49 in Clifton down to 44 at High Point. There is some light rain or drizzle falling in parts of the area. Winds are mainly calm.

A frontal system moving into the area today will give us rain mainly this afternoon and tonight, temperatures will be mild with highs in the 50s. Rainfall amounts of around 1 inch are expected. Temperatures tonight will remain in the mild 50s.

Chance of showers on Sunday as the front moves through our area in the afternoon followed by much colder air at night.

Monday and Tuesday will be chilly but dry as high pressure builds into our area.

Mainly dry Wednesday and during the day on Thursday with somewhat milder temperatures.

Low pressure will give our area a chance of rain or snow mainly from Thursday night through Friday morning.

WEDNESDAY – JAN 5 – Mostly cloudy in the morning then becoming partly sunny, milder, high in the upper 40s.

THURSDAY – JAN 6 – Mostly cloudy, high in the mid 40s. chance of rain or snow at night.

FRIDAY – JAN 7 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain or snow in the morning then becoming mostly sunny in the afternoon, high in the upper 30s.

MARINE FORECAST: TODAY – South-southwest winds to 10 knots, seas less than 1 foot.

OUTLOOK – A small craft advisories has been posted effective between 6 a.m. Sunday morning through 6 p.m. Sunday evening.
