Snow to accumulate 6-9 inches before ending this afternoon! Clearing and very cold on Sunday! Slowly moderating temperatures next week with a rain likely Wednesday night through Friday morning!

Snow is falling over the area early on this Saturday morning and temperatures at 5 a.m. range from 18 in Clifton down to 12 at Vernon. Winds are gusty from the northeast causing drifting of the snow. Accumulations so far look to be around 3-4 inches.

The major winter storm will be moving northeast, snow from this system will gradually taper off by noon and end this afternoon, winds gusting to 35 mph will cause blowing and drifting of the snow. Total accumulations should be around 6-9 inches. It will be quite cold with highs only in the 20s.

Gradual clearing tonight but it will be very cold with lows in the single digits with wind chills below zero. Sunday will be sunny but highs again will be in the 20s with diminishing winds.

Dry weather is expected Monday through Wednesday afternoon with slowly moderating temperatures.

A strong frontal system will likely give us rain Wednesday night through Friday. Highs on Wednesday will be in the 40s and in the low 50s on Thursday. On Friday the cold front will move to our east, highs will be in the morning and drop in the afternoon with possibly the rain changing to snow before ending.

TONIGHT – Gradual clearing and very cold, low near 8, winds gusting to 30 mph.

SUNDAY – JAN 30 – Sunny with diminishing winds, high in the mid 20s.

MONDAY – JAN 31 – Partly sunny, high in the low 30s.

TUESDAY – FEB 1 – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 30s.

WEDNESDAY – FEB 2 – Cloudy with a chance of rain by the afternoon, high in the mid 40s.

THURSDAY – FEB 3 – Cloudy and mild with rain likely, high in the low 50s.

FRIDAY – FEB 4 – Chance of rain changing to snow before ending, early highs in the upper 30s dropping to near 30 by sunset.

MARINE FORECAST: A storm warning is in effect until 6 p.m. this evening for northerly winds gusting to 50 knots, seas 8-13 feet.

OUTLOOK – Small craft advisories expected Sunday morning; no advisories expected Sunday afternoon through Wednesday.
