Yesterday we had no rain again even through there was a 70% chance of showers, however around the Lakewood area received up to 5 inches of rain which caused flash flooding.

Today there is a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms and once again some areas will stay dry while heavy rain is possible in some slow moving storms later this afternoon and this evening. With more cloud cover high temperatures will be a couple of degrees lower than yesterday, but the humidity will stay high with dew points in the low 70s as the Bermuda high pressure ridge continues to dominate our weather.

Less clouds on Sunday will cause high temperatures to rise into the 90s again and there is still a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

Hot and humid weather is expected to continue Monday and Tuesday. A slow moving cold front will approach our area Tuesday night giving us a good chance of showers and thunderstorms Tuesday into Wednesday.

High pressure will then build into our area for Thursday and Friday with more normal temperatures and lower humidity.

A weakening cold front will move into the area today and with more clouds it will not be as hot as yesterday but the humidity will be higher with dew points around 70. Skies will be partly sunny but showers and thunderstorms are likely late this afternoon and tonight. Some heavy downpours are possible. A heat advisory continues in effect.

The front will dissipate over our area this weekend but it will remain humid, there is a good chance of showers on Saturday and a lesser chance on Sunday. Temperatures will be in the upper 80s to near 90 on Saturday and in the low 90s on Sunday with more sunshine.

Today will be very hot with slowly increasing humidity, there is a slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm mainly over inland areas. A heat advisory is in effect with heat indexes expected to be between 100-105 degrees. There will be a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening mainly before 11 p.m.

Weak high pressure in our area will give us a hot day with plenty of sunshine, however the humidity will be lower than yesterday with dew points in the low 60s.

Very hot on Thursday with increasing humidity, highs will be well up into the 90s and with dew points rising to around 70 will push the heat index to near 105. A heat advisory will be in effect.

Friday there will be a good chance of showers as a front moves into the area, high temperatures will be a little lower with the clouds and precipitation but the humidity will remain high with dew points in the low 70s.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR JULY 2022

Temperatures were well above normal with an average of 79.2 degrees which made it the 3rd warmest July since 1973, hottest was in 2020. The highest temperature was 99 degrees set on the 24th, the lowest was 63 recorded on the 4th and the 27th. 11 days of 90 degree plus temperatures and 6 days of temperatures of 95 degrees or more. Precipitation was near normal with 4.30″ accumulating. Most of the rain came on two occasions, .90″ on the 8th and 2.88″ on the 18th. Some areas of New Jersey missed most of the precipitation, Newark airport only had .55″ of rain which was their driest July on record.
