Skies are mostly cloudy early on this Saturday morning and temperatures are unseasonably mild with early readings ranging from 59 in Clifton down to 53 at Basking Ridge. Winds are mainly calm and the humidity is high with some patchy fog in some parts of the area.

High pressure will move off the coast today with a southerly flow of unseasonably mild air today despite considerable high clouds with some records possible. The humidity will be high with dew points rising to the low 60s.

The high pressure will move further offshore on Sunday but a continued southerly flow will keep temperatures unseasonably mild with some records again possible. Early Sunday morning temperatures may stay in the 60s. There is a slight chance of a shower mainly inland in the afternoon and evening.

A cold front is expected to cross the area on Monday but it should still stay unseasonably warm during the day but become cooler and less humid by Monday night.

Mainly dry and cooler Tuesday through Thursday as high pressure builds from the north, northeast winds may become gusty especially on Wednesday.

There will be a good chance of rain on Friday as a front approaches from the west and some tropical moisture may move in from the southeast. Temperatures will be milder.

High pressure will continue to control our weather today with plenty of sunshine, light winds and mild temperatures. There will be a slow increase in humidity by late this afternoon and tonight.

Unseasonably mild weather for the weekend with some record high temperatures possible as the high moves offshore and a warm south-southwest flow develops. Humidity will increase with some dew points in the 60s.

Another unseasonably warm day on Monday as a cold front approaches from the west. This front should come through dry Monday night and will be followed by cooler and much less humid air.

High pressure will then keep our area dry Tuesday through Thursday with temperatures near or slightly above normal.

It should remain mainly dry through the period with only a slight chance of some light showers on Sunday.

A cold front will cross the area Monday night followed by cooler air for Tuesday and Wednesday.

High pressure building into our area from the Great Lakes will give us a sunny and mild day with less humidity than the last couple of days.

High pressure will then be just north of our area Thursday and Friday with continued mostly sunny skies both days and above normal temperatures.

As the high moves off the coast a return flow will give us even warmer weather Saturday through Monday with highs each day well up into the 70s, note that the normal high temperature is only in the mid-upper 50s.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR OCTOBER 2022

The average temperature for the month was 55.9 degrees which is 1.2 degrees above the 50 year average; the highest temperature was 79 on the 7th and the lowest was 35 degrees recorded on the 19th; Precipitation unlike most of the summer months was above normal with 5.68″ accumulating; the day with the most rain was on the 4th when we received 1.85 inches as some of the remains of Hurricane Ian moved offshore.

Overnight showers will be moving further offshore and we should have partial clearing today along with mild temperatures; it will be rather muggy with dew points near 60. A weak cold front will come through dry tonight.

Still mild Wednesday through Friday as high pressure builds into the area, the humidity will drop with dew points mainly in the 40s.

Very mild weather with increasing humidity for the weekend with highs both days in the 70s. A frontal system may cause some showers late Sunday night into Monday.
