Mostly light rain is falling over much of the area early on this Saturday morning and temperatures are milder than this time yesterday with readings ranging from 35 in Clifton down to 29 at High Point. Winds are light from the east-northeast. The air quality is good with an index of 32.

A rather strong and wet low pressure system will affect our area today. Mainly light rain this morning but becoming heavy this afternoon and evening with possible thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts will average near 3 inches with some higher amounts possible. A flood watch is in effect. Also northerly winds will pick up tonight and gust near 40 mph so a wind advisory is also in effect.

Sunday will be a sunny day but cool and with winds gusting to above 30 mph will make it feel even cooler.

Weak high pressure will then build into the area providing dry conditions with near seasonable temperatures.

Unsettled weather Wednesday through Friday as some weak low pressure areas move through. The highest chance of rain will be Wednesday afternoon and night.

THE FORECAST:

TODAY – MARCH 23 – Rain this morning becoming heavy at times this afternoon with possible thunderstorms, highs in the low 50s.

TONIGHT – Mostly cloudy with rain ending by 8 p.m., becoming windy with gusts to 40 mph. A flood watch is in effect for up to 3 inches of rain and a wind advisory has also been issued.

SUNDAY – MARCH 24 – Sunny, windy and cool, highs in the upper 40s, winds gusting to 35 mph.

MONDAY – MARCH 25 – Sunny, highs in the low 50s.

TUESDAY – MARCH 26 – Mostly sunny, highs in the low 50s.

WEDNESDAY – MARCH 27 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers in the morning then rain likely in the afternoon and evening, highs in the low 50s.

THURSDAY – MARCH 28 – Mostly cloudy with a chance of rain, highs in the upper 50s.

FRIDAY – MARCH 29 – Partly sunny with still a chance of showers, highs in the mid 50s.

MARINE FORECAST: A gale warning is in effect until 6 p.m. Sunday evening for southeast winds becoming northerly to 45 knots, seas 6-11 feet.

OUTLOOK: Small craft advisories expected Sunday night through Tuesday night with possible gales on Monday; advisories still possible for high seas on Wednesday.
