Tropical depression Henri will cause rain this morning tapering off to showers this afternoon and ending tonight! Another heatwave Tuesday through Thursday!

Rain is falling moderately to heavy around the area early on this Monday morning and temperatures at 5 a.m. range from 71 in Clifton down to 67 at High Point. Winds are from the south around 10 mph.

As of 5 a.m. our storm total from Henri is 6.57″, 2.33″ on Saturday, 3.44″ on Sunday and .80″ so far today.

Tropical depression Henri is now centered over the Hudson Valley and rain is still circulating around the storm. Steady rain should taper off to occasional showers and thunderstorms this afternoon with rain that still may be heavy at times. The showers will finally end tonight. An additional 1/2″ to 1 inch of rain is expected with higher amounts possible. A flood watch continues in effect.

Bermuda high pressure will then dominate our weather Tuesday through Thursday giving us more than likely the last heatwave of the summer with highs in the 90s. The humidity will be moderate on Tuesday but then increase Wednesday into Thursday. Most of this period will be dry but there will be a low chance of afternoon or evening showers on Thursday.

A cold front is expected to cross the region on Friday followed by cooler and less humid air for the upcoming weekend.

TODAY – AUG 23 – Cloudy with rain this morning with showers and possibly a thunderstorm this afternoon, humid, high in the low 80s. Flood watch in effect.

TONIGHT – Mostly cloudy in the evening with showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm, becoming mostly clear after midnight, low near 70.

TUESDAY – AUG 24 – Sunny and hot, high in the low 90s.

WEDNESDAY – AUG 25 – Sunny and hot and becoming more humid, high in the low 90s.

THURSDAY – AUG 26 – Partly sunny, hot and humid with a chance of an afternoon or evening shower and thunderstorm, high in the low 90s.

FRIDAY – AUG 27 – Partly sunny with a chance of afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms, high in the upper 80s.

SATURDAY – AUG 28 – Mostly sunny, cooler and less humid, high near 80.

SUNDAY – AUG 29 – Partly sunny, high in the low 80s.

MARINE FORECAST: TODAY – Southwest winds to 10 knots, seas less than 1 foot. Point Pleasant Beach’s ocean temperature is 76 degrees.
