A rather potent storm now located in the southeastern states will be moving into our area giving us strong winds and heavy precipitation this afternoon into Thursday. The precipitation will start off as snow that can give us an inch of snow in the Clifton area before changing to rain this evening, however further inland the change over will be slower and there a good chance that several inches of snow will come down quickly before mixing with sleet and then freezing rain, there additional icing will fall well into this evening. In the Clifton area the snow will mix and change to rain this evening with rain heavy at times, also strong wind gusts to 40 mph are likely. The precipitation will taper off Thursday morning to showers as the storm moves offshore. Friday will be quiet and dry with seasonably cool temperatures. Another storm has the potential to give us snow Saturday night into Sunday morning, too early to estimate snow falls with this storm as some computer models have the storm moving too far south of us and out to sea.. Monday and Tuesday will be dry with slightly colder than normal temperatures.
The forecast: Snow beginning around 1PM, may accumulate to 1 inch by evening, 4-8 ” Northwest New Jersey, high near 40.

Thursday – Rain showers mostly ending by noon, breezy, high in the low 40s.
Friday – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 30s.
Saturday – Becoming cloudy with a chance of snow by the afternoon, high in the mid 30s.
Sunday – Cloudy with a chance of snow, high in the mid 30s.
Monday – Partly sunny, high in the mid 30s.
New Year’s Day – Partly sunny, high in the low-mid 30s.
Marine forecast: Storm warnings from 6pm tonight to 6am Thursday. East winds gusting to 50 knots by evening, seas up to 15 feet.
Outlook – Gale warnings likely during the day Thursday, conditions lowering to below advisory levels on Friday but advisories may be needed for the storm on the weekend.
