Temperatures this morning have fallen into the teens and there was a couple of flurries falling, winds are brisk.

Cold Arctic air as moved into the area and pushed the accumulating snow to our south,  so what looked to be a major snowstorm a couple of days ago has be reduced to only some early morning flurries for most of Northern New Jersey, Southern New Jersey may pick up 6-8 inches and even there it won’t be as bad as forecasters originally thought.

Tonight will be bitterly cold with lows in the single digits.

Dry with much below normal temperatures for tomorrow and Wednesday.

Slight moderation in temperatures as the week progresses, and we will watch another storm form offshore that may give us some snow Thursday night then changing to rain on Friday but at this time this storm it appears that this storm will be far enough offshore to cause any major problems.

Dry on the weekend with continued moderating temperatures but still slightly below normal for this time of year.

Tonight – Mostly clear and very cold with diminishing winds, low around 10.

Tuesday – Partly sunny, high near 30.

Wednesday – Mostly cloudy, high in the mid 30s.

Friday – Mostly cloudy with a chance of light snow changing to rain, high near 40.

Marine forecast: Small craft advisory in effect through Tuesday morning for northerly winds to 30 knots, seas 4-7 feet.

Three days ago it appeared that we would be looking at a major snowstorm in the Clifton area but now indications are we are only going to receive about an inch or two tonight into Monday morning.   What the computer models did not pick up that Joan took down the winter shower curtain on February 20th and since then all the potential storms have not panned out.   If you don’t like snow please thank her for taking the curtain down.  While the shower curtain was up we received over 60 inches of snow this season and only about an inch since it is removal….

Skies are cloudy at daybreak and temperatures are not nearly as cold with readings in the low 30s in the Clifton area to the 20s further inland.

Light snow will develop around noon as an Arctic front crosses our area temperatures will hold steady during the day, little or no accumulation is expected before sunset.  Tonight snow will become steady and continue through Monday morning and it will become much colder. Predicting snowfall amounts is tough with this system, at the present time I will say 3-5 inches will fall in the Clifton area, ranging from 2-4″ across extreme Northern New Jersey to 10-14 inches across Southern New Jersey.

Tuesday through Thursday will have mainly dry conditions with temperatures well below normal.

Another system will be moving off the coast Thursday night into Friday that could give us a chance of rain or snow.

Dry weather with milder temperatures likely on Saturday.

Monday – Snow mostly in the morning, highs only in the mid-upper 20s, total accumulations 3-5″

With clear skies and light winds temperatures range to around 10 in the Clifton area to some below zero readings in the normally colder areas, Walpack in Sussex County has fallen to -7 degrees.

Today a southerly flow will develop around a departing high pressure offshore and temperatures should rise into the upper 30s, skies will start out mostly sunny but clouds will increase as the day goes on.

A winter storm watch is in effect for snow that will begin Sunday afternoon and last into at least Monday morning.  The latest computer models now has the heaviest snowfall amounts just to our south across Central and Southern New Jersey where up to 10 inches can be expected, less snow as you travel north with up to 8 inches in the Clifton area and 4 inches across the extreme northern areas of Northern New Jersey.  These amounts are far from being etched in stone and will probably change.

Much below normal temperatures Tuesday into Wednesday morning with somewhat milder temperatures as we approach next weekend. However another storm may affect the area by next weekend with rain or snow.

Tonight – Mostly cloudy, low in the mid 20s.

Sunday – Cloudy with snow developing mainly after 3pm, high in the mid 30s. Snow continuing at night.

Monday – Snow ending around noon, total possible accumulations 6-8 inches, high only in the mid 20s.

Tuesday – Mostly sunny, high in the upper 20s.

Wednesday – Mostly sunny, high around 30.

Thursday – Partly sunny, high in the low 30s.

Friday – Mostly cloudy, high near 40.

Marine forecast: Today – Winds becoming southerly up to 9 knots, seas 1 foot.

Outlook:  Advisories likely Sunday night into Tuesday and still possible Wednesday into Thursday.

The temperature at 6am in Clifton is only 5 degrees, which is a record for the date and the coldest reading this month.  Winds have diminished from last night but wind chill readings are still well below zero.

Today despite plenty of sunshine temperatures will have a hard time reaching the 20 degree mark.  Tonight will be clear with mainly calm winds so temperatures will again fall to the single digits especially inland.

Temperatures will moderate on Saturday to the 30s which is still well below normal for the first day of March.

An Arctic cold front will be moving to our south on Sunday and we have a chance of light snow with this front during the day.

Low pressure will be moving along this front and snow will develop on Sunday night and continue through Monday evening, still too early to pinpoint amounts but a foot or more of snow is not out of the question.

Dry weather next Tuesday through Thursday with much below normal temperatures continuing.

Looking at the longer range models it appears that we will stay quite cold through the middle of March with still more chances of snow.  Maybe we have to burn that shower curtain.
