Today will be a mild day but it will become breezy as a weak cold front comes through this morning and a northerly flow develops..

Cooler on Tuesday as an onshore flow develops and we should see an increase in clouds, highs will be in the low 40s which is still above normal.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny and mild as high pressure builds into the area.

A low pressure area will likely give us rain Thursday afternoon and at night, temperatures continue to be mild.

Friday will be an unseasonably mild day with plenty of sunshine and highs approaching 60.

Cooler over the weekend with a chance of rain on Saturday as a weak frontal system moves into our area.

After having the coldest weather in four years, today we will be considerably milder despite plenty of clouds, as high pressure off the southeast coast gives us a southwesterly flow.

Monday will have more sunshine and continued mild temperatures. A weak cold front will come through dry Monday evening and Tuesday will be slightly cooler but still above normal on a northerly flow.

Wednesday will again be mostly sunny and mild.

Mild weather to continue Thursday into the weekend but a couple of low pressure areas will give us a good chance of rain Thursday and again on Saturday.

Skies are clear early on this Saturday morning and here in Clifton the temperature has fallen to 2 degrees which is a record low for the date and the coldest temperature since January 31st, 2019. The lowest temperature in the state is at High Point with a chilly reading of -7. Northwest winds are still gusting to 30 mph bringing wind chills down to well below zero.

Strong Arctic high pressure will be moving through the area today and then off the coast tonight. Today will be very cold with highs in the 20s and winds will not be as strong as yesterday, but gusts to 25 mph are still likely. Tonight the high will move off the coast and a southwest flow will help temperatures actually rise overnight to near 30 along with an increase in clouds.

Sunday will be a mostly cloudy day but much milder with highs reaching the upper 40s.

Much of next week will be quite mild with the best chance of rain will be Thursday into Friday as a frontal system moves into our area.

A southwesterly flow will bring considerably milder air for Sunday along with partly sunny skies.

High pressure will be moving through the area and off the coast by tonight. Today will be a partly sunny day with near seasonable temperatures.

The Arctic cold front is expected to move through the area before sunrise on Friday. The front will be followed by a strong northwest flow of extremely cold air. Highs will only be in the 20s and with winds gusting over 35 mph will bring wind chill values to fall to below zero.

Very cold air will continue to be with us on Saturday, early temperatures will be in the single digits with below zero readings further inland. Winds will be brisk in the morning but slowly diminsh in the afternoon.

Fortunately the brutal cold weather will not last long as Sunday will be considerable milder along with partly sunny skies.

Continued quite mild much of next week and staying mainly dry.

CLIFTON’S CLIMATE SUMMARY FOR JANUARY 2023 – (Records go back to 1973)

WARMEST JANUARY ON RECORD!

The average temperature for the month was 41.4 smashing the previous record by more than 2 degrees and was around 10 degrees above normal. The highest temperature was 68 on the 4th with the lowest temperature fell to only 25 degrees which also smashed the record for the highest monthly minimum temperatures. Precipitation was above normal with 5.32″. Snowfall was well below average with only 0.5″. So far this season only 0.9: of snow accumulated which is the lowest since the 1994-1995 winter season.
