Skies are cloudy early on this Saturday morning and light rain is falling over parts of the area with some sleet and snow mixed in at the higher elevations to our north and west. Temperatures at 5 a.m. range from 41 in Clifton down to 35 at Walpack and Vernon. Winds are light northerly!

Today will be a cloudy and dreary day with periods of mostly light rain. After having very mild air the last few days, today will be cooler with highs in the 40s, which is near normal. Some of the precipitation this morning may be mixed with sleet mainly to our north and west. The rain will end tonight. Rainfall amounts will be between 1/4 and 1/2 inch.

Clearing on Sunday but it will be breezy and cool.

Mainly dry weather next week with near seasonable temperatures expected.

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Friday morning and temperatures again are unseasonably mild with readings at 5 a.m. ranging from 57 in Clifton down to 44 at Walpack. Winds are light from the west.

Another day of record warmth is possible today as we will have sunny skies with high temperatures near 60 degrees. A weak cold front will pass through our area this morning with a secondary cold front passing through tonight which will filter in cooler air.

Low pressure will move just to our south on Saturday and precipitation should begin before sunrise and continue through Saturday night. The precipitation will be in the form of rain in the Clifton area but may mix with sleet and slow across higher elevations of northwestern New Jersey. Rainfall amounts will be around 1/2 inch.

Clearing and seasonably cold on Sunday with skies becoming sunny.

Mainly dry weather most of next week with temperatures near seasonable levels.

A brisk southwest flow of unseasonably mild air will be with us as high pressure off the coast dominates our weather. Record high temperatures are likely with highs mainly in the 60s.

A weak cold front will cross our area early Friday morning but no cold air is behind the front and we should have another unseasonably mild day with still some record highs possible as highs approach the 60 degree mark.

Rain is expected with cooler temperatures on Saturday, the rain will be mainly light with rainfall totals around 1/2 inch.

Sunday through the middle of the week will be cooler as temperatures fall to more seasonable levels and we should be dry through this period as weak high pressure dominates our weather.

OUT OF THE AREA WEATHER: Yesterday and last night most of the middle of the country had record high temperatures along with many reports of hurricane force gusts and some tornadoes. Also the Philippines were hit with an intense typhoon.

Strong high pressure over the northeast (30.65″ at my station this morning) will give us another mild day under partly sunny skies. A warm front may touch off a light shower late this afternoon into this evening.

A southwest flow of very mild air is expected on Thursday despite mostly cloudy skies, highs will rise into the 60s. A weak cold front is expected to cross the area at night with only a slight chance of a shower.

Still mild on Friday with highs again approaching the 60 degree mark.

Low pressure will give us rain with cooler temperatures on Saturday.

Sunday will be cooler and breezy with highs near normal which will feel chilly after the mild weather much of this week.

It now appears that the possible coastal storm will be too far to our south to give our area any precipitation early next week. Temperatures will continue to be near seasonable levels.

High pressure will give us another nice mid December day today with mostly sunny skies, mild temperatures and light winds. There is a weak cold front that will cross our area this afternoon but with no precipitation expected.

Wednesday will have more clouds as a weak warm front approaches our area but high temperatures will once again be in the 50s. The warm front may cause a shower Wednesday night.

Thursday should be the mildest day of the week as a warm front moves to our north and a brisk southwesterly flow develops, highs will be in the low 60s.

Friday again will be a nice and mild day with temperatures a bit lower than on Thursday.

After a dry and mild day on Friday rain is expected on Saturday followed be clearing and cooler weather for Sunday.

Some models are indicating a possible coastal storm for next Tuesday which will give us a chance of rain or snow.
