Skies are cloudy early on this Wednesday morning and there is some rain falling in the area. Temperatures at 5 a.m. range from 69 in Clifton down to 65 at High Point. Winds are mainly calm.

The remains of Hurricane Ida will be approaching our area today. Rain with this system will be mainly light and intermittent during most of the day today, but as the storm gets closer torrential rain will fall in our area from late this afternoon until around daybreak on Thursday. Some rainfall rates could be between 1-2 inches an hour with total rainfall averaging 3-6 inches with higher amounts possible. Due to our wet ground from Tropical Storm Henri considerable flooding is expected. A flash flood watch is in effect. Also there is a chance of some small tornadoes with the best chance of some spin-ups will be across the central and southern parts of the state.

The storm will move offshore on Thursday with rain ending by daybreak followed by mostly sunny skies by the afternoon and it will be breezy with much less humidity.

Tranquil weather Friday through most of the Labor Day weekend as high pressure builds into the area. Most of the time it will be dry but there is a chance of showers Sunday afternoon and night. Temperatures will be a little below normal Friday and Saturday and be a bit above normal Sunday and on Labor Day.

A weak cold front moves to our south overnight and skies are becoming mostly clear. Today will be a warm day and gradually become less humid. We should see some increase in clouds as moisture from the remains of Hurricane Ida moves into our area.

Rain from Ida will move into our area on Wednesday and the heaviest rain should fall from late Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. Rainfall amounts of 3-5 inches are expected with possible higher amounts. The ground is still rather saturated from the rain from Tropical Storm Henri so flooding is expected and a flash flood watch will be in effect.

The rain will taper off to showers Thursday morning with some clearing late in the day or at night.

Nice weather is expected for the holiday weekend with only a low chance of showers on Labor Day. Friday and Saturday will be slightly cooler than normal with low humidity. Temperatures Sunday and Monday will be slightly above normal.

A warm front is moving to our north this morning and we will have a southwest flow of much warmer and more humid air. A cold front approaching from the northwest will likely give us showers this afternoon and evening with a chance of a thunderstorm. With highs well up into the 80s and dew points in the 70s will make heat indexes to reach around 95 degrees.

The cold front will pass through our area early Tuesday morning followed by drier air on Tuesday, but it will still be warm with highs again in the 80s.

The remains of Hurricane Ida will give our area some heavy rain Wednesday into Thursday morning and depending on the track will determine how much rainfall we will receive; there is a potential of 3-5 inches of rain with some higher amounts possible.

After the storm much drier air will be with us on Friday and should last through much of the holiday weekend. Temperatures will be near normal Friday through Sunday and become somewhat warmer and more humid on Labor Day.

Today will be mostly cloudy again as high pressure moves off the New England coast and a warm front approaches from the southwest. There is only a 20% chance of a light shower today and tonight as the warm front moves to our north. Humidity will increase and dew points should rise to the low 70s by late tonight.

Monday will be a quite warm and humid day with partial sunshine. A cold front will be crossing the area at night giving our area a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.

Tuesday should be dry and warm with decreasing humidity.

Flooding rains are expected Wednesday into Thursday morning as the remains of Hurricane Ida moves into our area. Rainfall amounts could reach 3-6 inches in our area. Ida is now at Category 4 hurricane with top winds of 140 MPH and is expected to hit the New Orleans area tonight.

After the remains of Ida moves offshore high pressure will build into our area on Friday and at this point the Labor Day weekend looks to be dry with seasonable temperature and low humidity, much nicer weather than the Memorial and Independence weekends this year.

Today will be much cooler and a little less humid as a front has moved to our south and we should have a light onshore flow. Skies will be mostly cloudy with a chance of some showers.

The front will start to move northward on Sunday with mostly cloudy skies continuing, it should be mainly dry with near seasonable temperatures but the humidity will rise by the end of the day.

A cold front will cross the area Monday night preceded by warm and humid conditions along with a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Tuesday will be less humid but it will stay warm along with partly sunny skies.

The remnants of Hurricane Ida may influence our weather Wednesday into Thursday with the possibility of heavy rain.
