Skies across the area are cloudy as the cloud shield from Hurricane Dorian is over our area, temperatures range from the low 60s in Clifton down to around 50 further inland, winds are light northerly.

Today will be cloudy and cool as Hurricane Dorian moves northeast well away from our area but close enough to give us a chance of rain mainly this afternoon and evening, winds will pick up a bit from the northeast. Coastal areas will have more wind along with high surf and a high risk of dangerous rip currents.

The storm will move further away into the Canadian Maritimes and high pressure will build into the area. There will be plenty of sunshine both Saturday and Sunday along with seasonable temperatures and comfortable humidity.

Dry and seasonably cool weather for early next week.

Warmer and a little more humid Wednesday and Thursday along with a chance of showers both days.

Hurricane Dorian is located 55 miles southwest of Cape Hatteras North Carolina and is moving northeast. Top winds are near 90 mph. Dorian is expected to move well east of our area and then move into the Canadian Maritime region on Saturday.

Today will be much cooler and drier as a cold front came through in the evening and high pressure builds in from the north, expect plenty of sunshine and dew points in the comfortable 50s.

Hurricane Dorian will move well to our south and east on Friday but skies will become mostly cloudy and there is a chance of some light rain in the afternoon and evening, winds along the shore may gust to 35 mph, but be much lower in our area.

High pressure will then build behind the storm providing our area with plenty of sunshine Saturday and Sunday along with comfortable temperatures and humidity.

Dry and seasonably cool Monday and Tuesday and then a little warmer on Wednesday with a low chance of a shower.

TROPICS: Hurricane Dorian is a Category 3 storm with top winds of 115 mph and is located 80 miles south of Charleston S.C. and is moving slowly north. Dorian is expected to move on or just off the Carolina coast today and then move northeast well south and west of our area.

Tropical storm Gabrielle is in the middle of the Atlantic with top winds of 50 mph and is no threat to land.

Today will be a warm and humid day with temperatures well up into the 80s and dew points reaching the upper 60s, skies will be mostly cloudy. A cold front will cross the area this evening preceded by a chance of thunderstorms, the best chance of these storms will be around 5 p.m., some of the storms may be severe with strong gusty winds.

Cooler and drier on Thursday along with mostly sunny skies.

Hurricane Dorian will move well out to sea on Friday but we may see some light rain in our area along with wind gusts to 35 mph especially over coastal areas.

The weekend looks to be dry with slightly below normal temperatures.

Cool and dry conditions expected to continue into early next week.

Tropical storm Fernand has formed just off the Mexican coast in the Gulf of Mexico and will move inland, top winds are 50 mph.

Tropical storm Gabrielle has formed well out into the Atlantic and will not affect any land areas, top winds are 40 mph.

High pressure building in from the west will give us a warm day with plenty of sunshine and moderate humidity.

Quite warm and humid on Wednesday with a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorm as a cold front crosses the area at night.

Much cooler Thursday and Friday as high pressure builds in from the north and Hurricane Dorian which is expected to move well out to sea, some light rain is possible on Friday, winds may be strong along our coast with high seas and dangerous rip currents.

A frontal system will affect our area today producing cloudy skies along with a chance of a shower this morning with showers and thunderstorms likely this afternoon and evening, some of the storms may be accompanied by strong gusty winds.

Tuesday will be pleasantly warm and dry.

Very warm and humid on Wednesday along with a chance of showers as a cold front approaches the area, the high temperature may reach 90 degrees with heat indexes in the middle 90s.

Much cooler Thursday and Friday and we have to watch the path of Hurricane Dorian as it moves to our south and east, some precipitation is possible especially coastal areas along with 40 mph wind gusts.

TROPICS:

Hurricane Dorian is over Grand Bahama Island and it remains a dangerous category 5 hurricane with 165 mph winds, the storm is nearly stationary and is expected to move slowly west and then north brushing the Florida coast. Dorian then is expected to be just off the Carolina coast and then moves northeast south and east of our coast.

August temperatures averaged around 1 degree above normal. Highest temperature was 94 on the 18th; the lowest temperature was 58 set on the 26th and 27th. Precipitation was above normal with 5.45″ accumulating. The temperatures and rainfall was above average for meteorological summer.
