Skies are mostly cloudy to cloudy across the region on this Thursday morning and tempertures range from the low 30s in the Clifton area to near 20 in the colder inland areas, winds are nearly calm.

A weak cold front will come through during the day today, the front should come through dry but a couple of snow flurries inland can not be ruled out, temperatures should reach the low 40s which is slightly above normal for early February.

Rather cold and dry Friday and Saturday with temperatures below normal.

Latest indications that the storm that was expected for Sunday will stay disorganized only giving our area a low chance of light snow or flurries.

A stronger storm will affect our area Tuesday into Wednesday, milder air will move in so most of the precipitation will fall as rain but may start as a wintery mix especially inland on Tuesday.

Colder again at the end of next week.

Today will be a mostly cloudy and chilly day with a low chance of flurries as a weak low pressure moves offshore well to our south, the southern parts of the state may pick up around 1-3 inches.

A second low pressure will move quickly into our area on Tuesday giving us some light snow, possible accumulations will be 1-2 inches mainly falling during the day.

A little milder and dry on Wednesday but a cold front will cross the area early on Thursday bringing down some seasonably cold air which should last through most of the weekend.

Have a nice day!

A little more sunshine today with lighter winds and slightly milder temperatures! Chance of some light snow and rain on Tuesday!

Sunday January 29, 2017  5:50 a.m.

Skies are partly cloudy early on this Sunday morning and temperatures have dipped to below freezing in Clifton for the first time Since January 16th, this was the longest streak of above freezing temperatures in January since my records began in 1973.  The temperature in Clifton is 30 degrees with readings in the mid 20s further inland, still slightly above normal.

Low pressure over the Canadian maritimes and high pressure over the western states will continue to dominate the weather today, winds will be less than yesterday and with move sunshine temperatures should be a little higher.

A weak low pressure system will likely give southern New Jersey a couple of inches of snow on Monday but only a slight chance of flurries in our area.

A slightly stronger low pressure system will give us a better chance of light snow or rain on Tuesday with some areas getting an inch or two of the white stuff.

Generally dry with cold temperatures Wednesday through next weekend, temperatures will be slightly below normal but no bitter cold air is anticipated.
