Dry with seasonably cold temperatures today and Friday! Mild and a mainly dry weekend! Significant storm possible next week!

Skies are mostly clear early on this Thursday morning and it is cooler than this time yesterday morning with readings ranging from the mid 20s here  in Clifton to around 20 inland, winds are a little brisk from the northwest.

High pressure will control the weather today and tomorrow giving us seasonably cold conditions, high temperatures both days will be in the 30s, winds will be on the brisk side today with lighter winds on Friday, no precipitation is expected.

Temperatures will be milder over the weekend and it should stay mainly dry, highs both days will be in the low 50s, quite a big difference from the frigid weather of last weekend.

A little cooler on Monday but staying dry.

A storm system is expected to develop over the southeast states on Tuesday and track through our area on Wednesday, yesterday’s run of the European model had the storm offshore and give us significant snow however the overnight runs of both the European and GFS models has a track over or just to our west which would mean mainly rain for our area with snow only well inland, still plenty of time to watch how the plays out so stay tuned for further updates.

Have a good day!

Snow developing this afternoon changing to freezing rain tonight! Much warmer on Tuesday with rain heavy at times!

Skies are mostly cloudy early on this Presidents Day, temperatures are still cold although it is around 10 degrees warmer than this time yesterday ranging from 9 in Clifton to 0 in the colder suburbs, winds are quite light.  Yesterday the temperature in Clifton ranged from a high of 14 to a low of -3.   The -3 degree reading was the coldest temperature in 22 years, also the average temperature of 5.5 degrees was the lowest February mean temperature since I started my records in 1973.

A low pressure will develop over the southeast states today and track to our west tomorrow.  Snow should develop this afternoon and continue tonight changing to freezing rain later tonight, expect around 2-3 inches of snow followed by a few tenths of an inch of ice, travel may become quite hazardous.  On Tuesday much warmer air will be moving in and by this time tomorrow temperatures will be in the 40s climbing to the 50s in the afternoon.  Rain will become heavy at times with around  1 to 1 1/2 inches of rain falling which may cause some urban and small stream flooding.  Rain will taper off and end Tuesday evening.

Clearing on Wednesday with temperatures slightly above normal.

Continued dry Thursday and Friday with near normal temperatures.

The upcoming weekend looks to be mild with highs in the 50s, there is a chance of rain on Saturday, Sunday should be dry.

Have a good day!

Frigid today but with diminishing winds! Snow and Ice tomorrow afternoon and night changing to rain on Tuesday!

A frigid morning across the area as temperatures have fallen to -2 degrees in Clifton which is the coldest temperatures since the -2 reading last February 20th.  The coldest right now in the state is -12 degrees at High Point, with the lowest reported temperature in the Northeast is the -36 degrees up in Watertown, NY.   Wind chills in our area range from -15 to -25 degrees. Sunday is usually one of the days I do my 4 mile walk and run but “NOT TODAY”

Today we will have plenty of sunshine with highs reaching 20 degrees by this afternoon but with less wind than yesterday it will feel not as harsh.  Clear early tonight and temperatures will fall to the single digits late tonight but with clouds moving in temperatures will rise a bit by sunrise.

A storm system is expected to develop over the southeast states on Monday and move just to our west on Tuesday, precipitation from the system will start off as snow Monday afternoon and accumulate around 2-4 inches before mixing with freezing rain late Monday night before changing to all rain Tuesday morning.  Although the air temperature will be above freezing by Tuesday morning the ground will still be very cold so Tuesday morning’s commute may be hazardous.  Much warmer air will then move into the region with highs reaching the low 50s in the afternoon, the rain may be heavy at times possibly causing urban and small stream flooding as 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches of rain is likely.

Some showers may linger into Wednesday with highs in the 40s.

Dry weather with seasonably cool temperatures Thursday and Friday.

Milder next weekend with a chance of rain.

THE FORECAST:

TUESDAY – Rain heavy at times, much milder with highs in the low 50s.

WEDNESDAY – Partly sunny with a chance of showers, high in the mid  40s.

THURSDAY – Sunny, high in the upper 30s.

FRIDAY – Partly sunny, high near 40.

SATURDAY – Mostly cloudy with a chance of showers, mild with a high near 50.

MARINE FORECAST:  Gale warning in effect till 10 a.m. this morning for northwest winds gusting to 40 knots, seas 4-7 feet, winds and seas lowering this afternoon.
