Warmer weather but we need rain!

We all like nice weather but it is very dry, brush fires have been common for the last few days. Did anyone see the smoke from the Meadowlands fire yesterday?

As we move forward the next several days the temperatures will increase and there are chances of showers but no dousing rain is in the forecast..

Today will start out sunny but clouds will increase later this morning and there is a chance of a shower this afternoon and evening, high near 60 degrees..

Tonight will be chilly with some freezing temperatures in the outlying areas but most places will be in the upper 30s with clear skies..

Friday will be mostly sunny with highs a bit higher than today in the mid 60s..

It will be a warm weekend with highs on Saturday in the low 70s creeping up to the upper 70s on Sunday, there is a chance of a shower Saturday evening but most of the weekend will stay dry.

Monday like it stays quite warm with a high near 80 degrees.

Tuesday and Wednesday will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, highs Tuesday in the 70s, Wednesday highs in the upper 60s

More clouds today with some showers!

It will be a little cooler today with more clouds and mainly just scattered showers this afternoon, highs in the upper 50s.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy with a slight chance of a shower with a high near 60 degrees.

Friday will feature more sunshine and milder temps in the mid 60s..

The weekend will be warmer although there is a chance of showers Saturday evening to Sunday morning, highs Saturday near 70 and Sunday’s highs will be in the mid-upper 70s but it will be windy on Sunday once again.

Early next week a front will be near by and depending on where this front is positioned will determine the amount of clouds and or showers and how high the temperatures will be.. Right now I think highs will at least be 70 degrees with the possibilities of much higher readings if the front stays further to our north… How is that for a hedge?

Less wind than yesterday!

March is supposed to be the windy month but the first few days of April have had more wind. Yesterday we had gusts to over 40MPH. The combination of wind, very low humidity
and the recent dry spell has resulted in many brush fires in the area.

Today the wind will be less strong but gusts still can be near 30MPH this afternoon, it will be partly sunny and just a slight chance of a shower, highs in the lower 60s.

Wednesday will have more clouds and a chance of showers, highs in the upper 50s.

Thursday still a slight chance of a shower, partly sunny, high near 60.

Friday will be mostly sunny with highs in the lower 60s..

Saturday a warming trend will take place with temps reaching the upper 60s.. Mostly sunny.

Sunday should warm up in the 70s with partly sunny skies although there is a slight risk of a shower..

Monday there will be a front just to our north, if it stays as forecast temps will reach at least the mid 70s, still a chance of showers…

Windy Monday!

You can see my new weather station in the background. I want to thank my wonderful former co-workers for this nice retirement present! I have my I.T. department (Jared) looking to have the data from the station posted automatically on this website.

Today the wind indicator is going to get a workout as we may have wind gusts up to 40MPH. The weather will be dry again with temps a couple of degrees lower than yesterday’s, mainly in the mid 60s. Brush fire danger again today with a Red Flag Warning in effect.

Tuesday will have less wind but more clouds, only a slight chance of an afternoon shower or thundershower, high near 60.

Wednesday has the best chance of showers with highs in the 50s.

Thursday, slight chance of a morning shower highs in the upper 50s.

Friday will have mostly sunny skies with highs in the lower 60s.

Weekend at this point looks milder, no rain in my forecast yet but that may change.. highs in the 60s on Saturday and close to 70 on Sunday.

Next week will start out warm with highs at least in the 70s….

Happy Easter!

Easter Sunday’s weather can have a snowstorm like we had in 1970 to blazing heat as in 1976 when it reached 96 degrees, thankfully today will be almost perfect with sunny skies and highs in the upper 60s, the winds will kick up this afternoon once again but not be as windy as yesterday.

Monday we will have more wind once again but it still will be partly to mostly sunny with highs in the mid 60s. Wind gust above 30 MPH in the afternoon..

Tuesday cooler with more clouds and a chance of afternoon and evening showers, high in the upper 50s.

Wednesday has the best chance of showers, even a snow flake well inland, cooler still with highs in the low to mid 50s..

Thursday partly cloudy with a high in the upper 50s.

Friday bit milder with more sun, high near 60 degrees

Next weekend a warming trend will take place with highs in the mid 60s on Saturday and in the 70s by Sunday, little of no rain so far..

Monday April 16th quite warm with a high approaching 80…

Wonderful early spring weather continues through Easter weekend!

Today will continue to have sunny skies with highs a couple of degrees milder than yesterday in the low 60s. Still breezy.

Tonight clear and cool with lows in the 30s..

Easter Sunday’s weather will continue to be great with highs in the low to mid 60s, some gusty winds again especially in the afternoon.

Now it looks like we get one more very nice day on Monday in the 60s but the winds will continue to be on the stronger side gusting to 30 MPH..

The rest of the week looks cooler with highs in the 50s with a low chance of showers mainly Tuesday through Thursday.. A stationary low pressure near Nova Scotia will continue to keep the winds on the higher side.

Looking further ahead the computer models are hinting at another warming trend for next weekend.

Perfect weather for Easter Weekend!

The weather for the upcoming holiday weekend will be very similar as yesterday with plenty of sunshine, breezy and temperatures near 60 degrees today and Saturday and in the low to mid 60s on Easter.. Nights will be chilly with lows in the 30s..

Next week’s forecast is for more clouds and chance of showers, highs on Monday will be near 60 degrees but most of the week the highs will not get out of the 50s..

Today is the 30th anniversary of the April blizzard in 1982. This is what I wrote in my daily summary for that date. :

HIGH 37 AT 0001HRS LOW 18 AT 2200HRS.

FIRST APRIL BLIZZARD EVER HIT OUR AREA WITH 12″ OF SNOW WHICH WAS THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL SINCE 1979 AND FIRST ACCUMULATING APRIL SNOW SINCE 1974.. IN CENTRAL PARK THE SNOWFALL WAS .6″ SHORT OF THE HEAVIEST APRIL SNOW EVER. LOW PRESSURE IN THE MIDWEST MOVED TO PENNSYLVANIA AS A SECONDARY FORMS OFF THE MARYLAND COAST AND MOVES NORTHEAST WHILE INTENSIFYING. SNOW DEVELOPING AROUND 0200HRS BECOMING HEAVY AT TIMES TAPERING OFF AROUND 1500 AND ENDING BY 1700. FIRST TIME I EVER REMEMBER SCHOOLS CLOSED IN APRIL AND THE FIRST TIME IN MY MEMORY THE YANKEES GETTING SNOWED OUT. THERE WERE ALSO CLASPS OF THUNDER ONCE AROUND 0700 AND AGAIN AROUND 1000.. VERY STRONG NORTHEAST WINDS IN COMBINATION WITH SNOW CAUSED LOW VISIBILITIES AND SNOW DRIFTS. NEWARK AIRPORT WIND GUST TO 55MPH. RECORD COLD TEMPERATURES AT NIGHT WITH DRIFTING SNOW. 21 DEGREES IN CENTRAL PARK RECORD LOW FOR THE DATE AND IT WAS THE COLDEST READING SO LATE IN THE SEASON. 18 DEGREES HERE WAS 6 DEGREES COLDER THAN ANY APRIL TEMPERATURE SINCE MY RECORDS BEGAN. WIND CHILL ABOUT -20 DEGREES. THIS UNUSUAL APRIL WEATHER FOLLOWS TWO BORING MONTHS IN FEBRUARY AND MARCH, HARD TO BELIEVE THIS BLIZZARD CAN OCCUR SO LATE IN THE SEASON..

Pleasant weather through Easter Sunday!

Today will be cooler but still very nice, breezy in the morning with diminishing winds in the afternoon, highs in the upper 50s, about 10 degrees cooler than yesterday.

Friday through Sunday will continue quite pleasant with plenty of sun and for a change normal temperatures for this time of year with highs near 60 rising to the low 60s by Easter. Lows mostly in the upper 30s..

Next week will not be as good as this past week with lots of clouds and showers with daytime highs mainly in the 50s… So I am glad I have this week off!

Pleasant spring weather to continue! Red Flag Warning!

Today will become mostly sunny and despite a cold front coming through temperatures will still rise to near 70 today. Winds will gust near 25MPH and with very dry air there is a threat of brush fires, because of this the National Weather Service issued a Red Flag Warning for our area.

Tonight will be cooler with lows by morning falling into the 30s..

Thursday looks sunny with highs about 10 degrees cooler, near 60 degrees..

Friday through Sunday the dry and pleasant conditions will continue with temps in the 50s on Friday and into the 60s by Sunday.

Long range forecast for next week, cooler and with a better chance or clouds and showers..

Very pleasant early spring weather through Easter!

We are going to have a nice stretch of weather through Sunday with no rain until early next week at the earliest..

Today will feature plenty of sunshine and it will be milder in the afternoon with highs in the mid-upper 60s, the winds will finally die down especially later i the day.

Wednesday a cold front will come through, breezy again but temperatures will be mild rising close to 70 degrees.
