Heat and humidity to continue through the weekend along with the chance of showers and thunderstorms each day!


Skies are cloudy early on this Thursday morning and it is very warm and muggy with temperatures ranging from the upper 70s here in Clifton to the low 70s further inland, there are some scattered showers falling mainly over northern Sussex and Passaic counties.

Yesterday the dew point indicator at my station registered 82.8 degrees which is the highest dew point recorded since my station went on line in 2012.

A Bermuda high pressure ridge will be in control of our weather today through the weekend with heat and humidity continuing along with a chance of showers and thunderstorms each day, some of these showers may contain torrential downpours and with the slow movement of these storms could cause some flash flooding,  however some areas may remain mainly dry.  Today the temperature will reach 90 degrees and then be in the mid 90s Friday through Sunday and with dew points in the 70s the heat index may rise to above 105 degrees.

A front will move into the area early next week which will cause a slight lowering of the heat and humidity but a chance of showers will continue.

Very warm and extremely humid weather today through the weekend with a chance of showers and thunderstorms each day!


Skies are mainly cloudy early on this Wednesday morning and temperatures are warm with readings ranging from the mid 70s here in Clifton to around 70 further inland, humidity is also high with dew points in the low 70s.

A stretch of very warm and very humid conditions will be with us from today through the weekend as a Bermuda high pressure will produce a south-southwest flow of tropical air.  Today we will see considerable cloudiness with a chance of showers and thunderstorms some of these storms may be accompanied by heavy rain, with the clouds temperatures  should fall short of the 90 degree mark but with dew points in the 70s will make it feel quite uncomfortable.

Temperatures will be even hotter Thursday through the weekend with a continued chance of showers again accompanied by heavy rain, with dew points in the 70s will cause heat indexes over 100 degrees in many areas each day.

Slightly less hot and humid early next week but still shower chances will continue.

Tomorrow will be a mainly cloudy day and become more humid with a chance of showers and thunderstorms mainly in the afternoon and evening, with the cloud cover temperatures should stay below the 90 mark but the humidity will make it feel quite uncomfortable.

Hazy hot and very humid weather will be with us Thursday through the weekend, we will have chance of mainly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms each day, with some sunshine temperatures will reach and exceed the 90 degree mark each day and with dew points in the sultry 70s it will be very oppressive.

Quite warm and increasing humid weather starts on Wednesday and last through the weekend as a Bermuda high pressure ridge builds into our area, with the heat and humidity we will have chances of mainly afternoon showers and thunderstorms Wednesday through Friday with a chance of more widespread shower activity over the weekend.  With temperatures near 90 each day and dew points in the 70s will make it feel very uncomfortable.

High pressure then build back into the area on Sunday and should be in control of our weather through at least the early part of next week, temperatures will be seasonably warm with comfortable humidity.

JULY 2016 CLIMATE SUMMARY:    July average temperature was 78.0 degrees which was 2.5 degrees above normal, this was the seventh straight July with above normal temperatures.  Precipitation was above normal with 6.24 inches with about half that about falling in the last three days of the month, some inland areas had about twice that amount.

Today we should see mostly cloudy skies with only a low chance of a morning shower, it will become less humid than the last few days as high pressure builds down from the north, temperatures will be a little below normal.

Fantastic early August weather tomorrow and Thursday with high pressure in control of our weather giving us plenty of sunshine and comfortable temperatures and humidity.

A little more humid on Friday, the day will be mostly sunny but a cold front approaching from the west may give us some showers at night.
